you probably think that i’ve been hiding out or something but really, i’ve been swamped… i have written a lot this week, just not here… and between the heat and my new distraction, it’s been tough to write anything… but we press on… my new distraction, by the way, is a pain in the left side of my mouth… splendid… i’ve been trying to ignore it, but i know that it means i should visit my local dentist (groan)… yes, i need my teeth worked on… i’m looking into the type of dentistry that puts you to sleep and then takes care of your whole mouth while you’re out… i could use the sleep… and the work… so, maybe that will be a good fit… i’ve also been quite tired lately… and it’s pretty difficult to think straight when you feel like you could collapse at any moment… i even got to sleep in until almost 7:45 this morning… i think it’s because i’ve had to be more social than i prefer this past week or so… socializing is such a drain for me… it’s part of why i got out of retail… anyway… yes, there are some big things still looming and possibilities and i’m not going to talk about them because i’ve already gotten way too far ahead of things… so, i’ve resolved not to mention them at all… sorry, but you can read a whole bunch of reviews and such… right now, i’m off to work on the Moment of TRu…

so i could be happier… i mean… here’s the thing… last week, i turned in my reviews mid-day on Thursday… a little later than i normally do, but it’s generally not a big deal… we have a pretty soft deadline each week since i do these reviews in my spare time… but mr. editor decided to mention their tardiness when he posted them… not to me mind you, but to everyone on the forum… next i hear from him, despite a few emails and a PM, is yesterday afternoon when he’s asking for this week’s reviews… not a problem, i got them to him about an hour later… so here’s the thing… where are they?… not posted, that’s for sure… and mr. editor? who knows?… but now these will be posted later than last week’s (relatively speaking)… and that’s just plain silly…

anyway… boy did i have a lot i wanted to do today… barely did a thing… and oh this stinking headache.. i so need a good night’s sleep… that is all… no closing pleasantries… take care…

never mind… there are better things to talk about, another time perhaps…

A dozen or so albums came out today and all i can think about is what a stinkin shame it is that Pro*Pain didn’t…

So, i should be writing some reviews… but my head hurts and i really don’t feel like it… i’m feeling a little uninspired or something… i am pretty pleased with the CDs i have to choose from though… so it’s not even that i have to think too hard about how to nicely say that they are terrible… anyway… here’s a couple reviews i did write this week so far… and a Walk TRu that i posted late last week i think… time excapes me these days… did i mention my head hurts…

  • i keep forgetting to write about things… and later i think “oh yeah, i wanted to say…” well, so the rest of this entry is things of that nature…

the new ride… well, the durango is fitting in nicely… we’ve actually been able to keep it and the grand am in the garage which is pretty cool since we were expecting that they wouldn’t fit too well… the down side is obviously gas… and of course the gas companies are pouncing on this opportunity to take us for all that we’re worth… (at least there’s no monthly payment)… little boy loves the durango and has dubbed it “Red Rover” since it’s red, and it’s the first thing i thought of and he’s run with… also, the grand am, is “the blue knight”… which is fine, but i’ve added “Count Dextrane” as the official name… which is a conglomerate of Count Basie, Dexter Gordon and John Coltrane… i thought of jazz, because it’s a deep blue something close to midnight… Round Midnight… you follow my thinking… anyway… i’ve setttled into the count better than i expected… yes, it’s still bigger than i’d prefer (i really want a MINI)… but, the key here folks is the six-speaker premium sound system upgrade that is finally getting use… i’m much more for filling the car with sound than my wife and this system is serving me well… that’s all i have to say about that except that my MINI will have an even better system… someday… taken out of context (1): What do you call your car?

rebates RULE!… i say this because, in theory, i just made out like a bandit… i picked up seasons 5-9 of Friends on DVD at Costco the other day… well, first let me say that they had a great regular price for them at $28.99 a piece… now here comes the fun part… i had a coupon for $10 off each season… spectacular!… that brings the cost down to $18.99 a piece… (note: i also used this coupon to pick up the Looney Tunes Golden Collections 1&2)… so then i go to check out… and i get the receipt and at the bottom is a copy of the receipt specifically for “the rebate”… so i look into it and, according to the receipt, i’m entitled to a rebate of ten dollars back FOR EACH SEASON… that brings the cost down to $8.99 per season… this is amazing… but wait, that is not all… oh no, that is not all… Warner Brothers is offering a rebate for buying more than one season at the same time… woah… so that rebate, which after inspecting it all very carefully is totally separate from the Cosco one, which is totally separate from the coupon and this one offers $40 back for buying five seasons… so, $40 divided by 5 seasons is $8 a piece… bringing the total cost of each season to… $.99!… ninety-nine cents each!… crazy… and i’ll be even happier about it when/if they all process correctly… but even still the DVDs are between 30 and 40 bucks everywhere else i look… taken out of context (2): what’s your best/worst rebate experience? OR what TV on DVD shows do you have/collect?

Chili’s… i mentioned that i was going to complain to them… well, it wasn’t any one particular thing so much as just a completely horrible overall dining experience… first, get there and the host and hostess are fighting over who “has to go seat us”… after a minute or so, the host finally tells us to wait while he goes and finds a table… after a few minutes, he comes back and puts us at a booth way off in the corner and hasn’t gotten us a high chair for littler boy yet… so we have to ask for that… then, after another few minutes, he comes back with a chair, but the tables are configured as such that the high chair doesn’t fit between our table and the next… he pushes past me as i’m holding littler boy and jams the thing in between the tables, making it impossible for my wife to get out of the booth easily… then, we realize that the table is dirty… strike that… completely filthy and nasty sticky… so here we are in the booth, trying to keep the boys from touching the table, waiting for a waitress who finally comes to assk if we want drinks… we order and ask that the table gets wiped down… gone… where in the world is our waitress… eight minutes before we get our waters… no washcloth to wipe the table, takes our food order and takes off… in the meantime, we’ve used baby wipes to try to make the table usable… to top it off, the food when it did come was pretty horrible… i had ordered the chicken crispers, thinking they were like chicken fingers… man were they disgusting… there was this thick batter encasing the absolute worst cuts of chicken i’ve ever seen… it was nasty… then there’s the wait for our check and we can’t help noticing how great of service that the table around us were getting from other members of the wait staff… we, on the other hand, were completely neglected and we weren’t happy about it…

oh… how about some book chatter… Here’s something REALLY exciting… Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker have teamed up to bring us House which is a supernatural suspense thriller set to be released in April of 2006… intriguing… apparently some folks are trying to hide from a killer and they take solace in a house that they come across only to find out that there’s a far greater enemy residing there… pretty cool… anyway, i’ve begun reading Walk On, the Spiritual Journey of U2 and so far, i’m tired of kissing the hindquarters of U2 and specifically Bono… honestly, if this book doesn’t shift gears pretty quickly, i’m not gonna make it to the end… Bono is, in my opinion, a wonderful candidate for being the Antichrist, so all this sucking up is not sitting well… (i jest… somewhat)…

and i think i’m going to head off for now… perhaps head out of work early today and poke my head into the Christian bookstore to see if they were silly enough to stock Pro*Pain as i’ve heard some shops have… boy, that would be cool, wouldn’t it?… i need to research a magazine that i’m considering writing for as well… i tell you, i’ve always got something going on… for those of you who were looking forward to the more serious entry that i promised yesterday, my apologies… it will come sometime soon…

six point nine MILLION copies in twenty-four hours… that’s downright silly… i mean, it’s cool and all from the perspective of promoting reading again… but sheesh… how do you get that much hype… and how much is it really worth it anyway… eh well… hope you all had fun dressing up like silly nillies and waiting around for hours in bookstores… hope you enjoyed reading through the pages… sometimes, and it’s moments like these when i realize that i just may never really understand culture… personally, i haven’t read a single word from any of the Harry Potter books… and i’m fine with that… there was a time when i was interested in doing so, simply for the sake of being familiar enough to provide intelligent comments regarding the series… simply so that i’d be able to hold a conversation…. but i realized that it wasn’t necessary and it was a time commitment that i wasn’t really willing to invest… perhaps someday, i’ll revisit that… and catch up… probably not though…

so i feel like i have a little bit of room to breathe, though i don’t really… i wrote up a couple reviews today, one for everyone’s favourite crazy Canadian and one for Hip Hop for the Soul… anyway… i still do have the four regulars puffing smoke in my face as i try to go about my daily business… i feel really tired… because of the early mornings i guess… it’s crazy what losing an hour or so each night will do to you… also disrupting my sleep these days is the realization that i have a regular prowler that is loosed every night around 2:30 AM… that’s right, little boy in all his curiosity has taken to getting up around 2:30 every morning and wandering around the upper floor… i first discovered this about a week ago, when, i awoke to the sound of my door opening… (the door to my bedroom)… assuming that it was somehow morning already, i rolled over, pretended to still be sleeping and hoped that he would choose my wife instead of me… (he generally will come to one side of the bed and start talking to one of us, the “winner” has to get up and find the best way to handle the situation)… anyway… i rolled over and dosed back off only semi-cognizant of the clock telling me that it was 2:30 and not 6:30… approximately fifteen minutes later, it sunk in… and, my eyes were open and i was up walking around the house… yes, the bedroom door is open… yes, his water cup is gone from the bathroom… yes, the Buzz Lightyear figurine is gone from the hallway… no, his door isn’t open… no, i don’t hear anything inside… no, he’s nowhere else in the house… finally, i open up his door quietly to find him sound asleep with Buzz and the water cup next to him in bed… apparently he found what he wanted, realized that he was still tired and went back to sleep… following suit, i returned to bed… Of course… questions started occurring to me… like, was this a fluke? does he do this every night? how long has he been doing this? and does this pose a security threat? Sure enough, i’ve caught him three other times since… so now not only do i wake up ridiculously early every morning… i’ve taken to the habit of waking up in the middle of every night to guide little boy back into bed… ahh parenthood…

anyway… i’m gonna go ahead and stop typing today… i have some big entries coming up… one that will discuss the differences i see between “spirituality” and “Christianity”… and one that sums up my thoughts on the emerging church… namely three disturbing observations of this postmodernistic movement… they are a tangled duo of topics… so it may infact end up as one extremely long entry… but it’s all based on a recent conversation… and it’s pretty interesting i think… it’s amazing how, when you’re forced to articulate your beliefs, they surprise you…

EDIT TO ADD: wow, this is exciting… i got the layout of the article in my email today… thumbnail below… thus… i’m pleased to announce that the Sept/Oct Issue of HM Magazine will include my DEBUT feature article… (page 42)… isn’t it crazy?…

if i don’t turn out perfect, will you be a friend of mine?
    – TFK (“Slow Bleed” from The Art of Breaking)

not that it has anything to do with the entry, but i do like the thought… anyway, i did the reviews and Greg did a spectacular job of posting them lickety split, and even though he took a jab at me being a little tardy, i still thank him for that… it’s a soft deadline anyway… but, we’ll move on… here they are…

    CMCentral

  • Shaun Groves – White Flag
  • Inhabited – The Revolution
  • Michael Olson – Long Arm of Love
  • Jarian – He Changed Me
  • I’m making a mix CD for my father for his upcoming birthday… we’ll see how that works out… he’s a bit bummed about losing his job recently and i hope to have enough music on there to put a smile on his face and remind him that God’s in control… it’s tough, because he’s not too big on contemporary stuff… he’s big on Gaither’s and well… i try not to keep any Gaither’s on hand… regardless, i’ve been driving AudioScrobbler crazy with all my track sampling and such… plus i’m running out of time… and some of these songs… man, it’s tough to listen to them… they’re so touching… (just listened to “Great Are You” and “Calmer of the Storm” by downhere back to back and like woah, those are some powerful words)… anyway… POP QUIZ HOTSHOT: What’s your favorite, “I feel like I can’t make it anymore” song?

so i’ve been reading a lot lately… in fact, well i stowed them all away because of the humidity, but i’ve recently made it through, Praise Habit, by David Crowder, Blue Like Jazz (Donald Miller), Forgiving Solomon Long (Chris Well), The Abolition of Man (CS Lewis), and i just finished up The Pocket Guide to the Apocalypse (Jason Boyett)… next up is, well, i haven’t decided yet… My friends at Relevant Media Group gave me a number of books to consider, and there are a couple of manuscripts sitting around here that i need to attend to… Josh thinks i should read the new and expanded version of Walk On: The Spiritual Journey of U2, but that’s pretty thick… we’ll see… by the way, i tell you this because, i’m planning on having reviews of all of these and more available in the near future… oooh, i just made another commitment… POP QUIZ HOTSHOT: What are you reading today?…

on another note, i’m currently on a down cycle of enjoying my job… i go through these every now and again… and i know it’s largely my fault… but i was in a meeting the other day and i totally felt like i was in some sort of therapy session… i mean, i look around the table and realize that i’m surrounded by nervous twitches and ill-adjusted people… and i just don’t like them… as i said, i realize that this is my problem, that i don’t like them, and i need to change my attitude if it’s going to get any better… it’s just that… my gosh… i swear i’ve exhausted all my patience… driving me NUTS…

anyway, i’m going to head off for now… try to finish up some things and get home for a nice evening with my family… they don’t drive me nuts at least… and if you hadn’t guessed… i want answers to the pop quizzes in the comment sections… this means you too….

i’m not much for complaining about my work environment… i mean, the office space itself… not necessarily my co-workers… however, this is getting a little ridiculous… besides my co-workers… anyway… it’s very humid in the office… it’s somewhat cool still, because the air conditioner is blasting, but for one reason or another the humidity is out of control… it seriously feels like there is a layer of stickiness over everything… i feel like i need a shower from the moment i stepped through the doors… ugh… it’s nasty… and the combination of that, frustrations, and a sleepless-night induced headache… and i’m totally out of sorts today… i guess i often am… but i really feel it today…

a few resolutions for those of you hanging… i did manage to get the article in on time, i’m uncertain of how well it was received, but i think it went pretty well… i finished it up Saturday morning, was able to proof it Saturday afternoon… was able to completely polish it on Sunday and turned it in Sunday night… a full 8 hours before the deadline… could be a new record for me… anyway… i’ll let you all know what happens from here…

Snapple finally responded to my inquiry, after something like a week… and their response was actually a request for me to call them… turns out that my email was too long so they weren’t able to read it all… anyway, over the phone i was able to go over the details, air my grievances and gain my recompense… two free twelve packs of Snapple… yeah, apparently it’s my own fault that my phone was in my lap and got destroyed at the time… whatever… coming up, i’ll take on PlayStar, Acoustic Research and Chili’s…

Also, i know that i mentioned some time ago that i was playing a game of chess with a co-worker… i don’t know if i ever mentioned the outcome of the game… never mind… i probably did… OF COURSE I WON… anyway… what i really thought was interesting is that i was playing a guy we’ve hired for strategic marketing and planning… and he was complaining the whole time about not being able to think ahead more than one move… which, on a different playin field is really what his job is supposed to entail… so, i was somewhat concerned about the company’s hiring process… well, maybe “was” isn’t the right word… anyway… first lesson of chess kiddos… if you’re thinking about the move that you’re making, you’re three moves behind and you’ve already lost… not that i’m a chess master or anything…

so… the sound off section is mostly accurate, but i am currently indulging myself in a rack of mp3s that i stumbled across as i was poking through an old hard drive… currently, it’s Fat Boy Slim and his energetic “Funk Soul Brother”… other wonderful gems include instrumentals of many really cool hip-hop songs that many of you would have no idea about, but also “The Seventh Seal” by Van Halen, a handful of Trevor Rabin songs from various soundtracks, “I Might Be Wrong” from Radiohead, and “The Way You Look Tonight” as performed by John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk… yes, yes… i have quite a wide range of tastes… though, it all only qualifies me to write about hip-hop apparently… anyway… a couple projects i’ve been listening to as well on the side that i will give you a pre-taste of… the new TFK (that’s Thousand Foot Krutch), project is really something special… i think it’s going to end up with a lot of mixed reviews and potentially negative ones… but it’s simply because most of their listening audience isn’t very patient, and you really need to sit down and let this album work itself out for you… anyway… the new Mary, Mary album is also quite fun, though irritatingly copy-protected… and i guess that’s all i’ll talk about for now, since i’ll be trampling over the weekly Moment of TRu if i say too much…

and now i should get back to writing about the albums i’m supposed to review this week… and other things that i’m responsible for…

currently searching for 2 (or maybe 900) words to put together and make sense… i need to just close my eyes and type in my sleep… anyway… this week was a pretty cool week for CMC reviews… the straggler from last week found it’s way to the front page and i took the site places that probably weren’t expected… four releases that are bigger in the mainstream than in the Christian market… anyway… it also marked my one hundredth CMC review for the year… crazy… the feature for CMC is shelved until i get a better grip on this article… but here are the links for your consumption…

also this week brought devastating news to hip hop fans… Mars Ill’s spectacular album (Pro*Pain) is officially sidelined until… well… maybe forever… EMI has at least temporarily pulled the plug on the album… it’s a shame… it’s a real shame… keep in mind that as irritating as it is to us the fans, it’s tenfold worse for Mars Ill and family… and now… i’ll try again…

i’m interrupting your normally scheduled browsing to bring you a bonus mini review of the new Missy Elliott CD, The Cookbook (’cause i know you’re all interested)…

music: YOWSAS!… once again, amazing beats on the majority of the tracks… for goodness sakes did i hear a marching band?

lyrics: Grrrrr!… always the drawback, i really don’t want to hear about your sexuality… keep it in your pants, (*dj Scratches*)!

hot spots: Lose Control (Fat Man Scoop and a ridiculous beat), We Run This (Apache throwback beat), and Bad Man (just plain bananas)

low riders: Meltdown, Mommy (lyrically), most of the bottom half is slower musically that’s *gasp* slightly boring featuring trite r&b rhythms and appeal…

bottom line: why should the devil have all the good music? (giggle)… very strong album (both beats and language), so if you do pick it up, take note of your surroundings before bugging out and do your best to tune out some of the lyrics…

    that is all…
