October 2005

It’s Friday evening, well, night, and i’m all done with next week’s reviews and i even managed to make a special guest appearance on the front page of CMCentral with a special feature about those Christmas albums i’ve been listening to… so, i present to you, The Rundown: Christmas Music ’05… now, i’d like for this to become a regular, um, paid, feature, so if you are a member of the CMCentral community and you aren’t boycotting them or giving up the forums because they cause you to stumble into sin or whatever else… feel free to head over to this thread on the forums and chime in… like it love it hate it think it’s lame… it’s all good… i just want good feedback… for nonmembers, feel free to comment here and when i begin my lobbying, i’ll have more to include… okay… that is all… thanks for your time… you are now free to move about your weekend…

running out of time again… i’m so good at that… and now i feel even more convicted about it because i heard this song this morning and the lyrics said something like, if all you do is kill time, then time is killing you… yeah, i can see that… anyway…

i got the new issue of HM Magazine in the mail yesterday and yes, when i opened it up, my latest article is tucked away in the pages… this issue has my article about the mighty LA Symphony crew… I’m not sure when it’ll hit the news stands, but it has a fairly scary looking band called No Innocent Victim on the cover… it appears that the January/February issue will have to do without my input however, as i don’t think i was chosen to write the piece on, of all people, Rev Run… bummer…

so, since it’s about time to wrap things up… i’ll keep everyone in suspended disbelief about colonix and all that… it’s only October 25th and i might already be sick of Christmas music!…

vocally…

Isreal Houghton & New Breed (not the rap duo) – Alive in South Africa
Timothy Brindle – Killing Sin
The Message: Psalms
various Christmas albums kinda sorta…

ok, i’m kind of torn here… i know that i owe everyone at least a summary of my vacation… or something, but i also managed to find myself on the road this past weekend as well and got treated to some thought-provocation there too… what to do… what to do… so let’s see if maybe i can’t introduce everything and throughout the week fill in some of the meat… first though… the new review schedule is apparently in effect… and there are 4 more reviews up that i managed to put off writing until almost midnight Friday… and a special bonus review for Renown Magazine… it’s been a while, eh?

CMCentral

  • Falling Up – Dawn Escapes
  • David Phelps – Life Is a Church
  • Maylene and the Sons of Disaster – Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
  • Brooklyn Taberacle Choir – I’m Amazed… Live

    Renown Magazine

  • LA Symphony – Disappear Here
  • okay, so what’s ahead… from the vacation, i’ll talk about the place we went to, basketmaking (yes, basketmaking), Elizabethtown, go-karting, an experiment with colonix, and timeshares… maybe more… maybe i’ll talk about that beautiful sunrise that was in the last entry… (that’s where the picture is from)…

from this weekend… i’ll tell you where the absolute best Christian Bookstore in the world (according to my frame of reference) is… i know, that’s not really an impressive accomplishment… and i’ll dive into the world of the new Christian marketplace or as some of us know it, the modern church… i was fortunate? enough to take in a service that reeked of market research and i’m sure that the church put a chunk of their tithes and offerings towards “church consultants”… i’m really torn about the issue actually, though i’m sure i sound negative at this point…

    anyways… i’m off for now… i have small group tonight… games night or something… and i’m genuinely tired…

    the voice in my head…

EDIT: PrePS. please click this banner and check out the LA Symphony eCard. there’s a contest running and while i was a shoe in, they’ve extended the deadline and i’d still like to win… thanks…

as i was leaving for work this morning… little boy told me to have fun with a giant chicken today… if anyone has any idea what he’s talking about, please let me know… kids are just so full of oddities and surprises… for now, i’m heads down busy on writing some stuff and getting some work done… perhaps we’ll talk later…

EDIT:  i’m an idiot… well, i’m just too distracted to safely operate a vehicle… yes, backing out of my garage this morning i took off my driver’s side mirror… the garbage can was a bit too far over from the wall and i wasn’t paying attention and CRACK!… it’s just dangling there by the power cable… so then we get the great idea to duck tape the mirror back in place… and well, it wasn’t me, but someone, duck taped the mirror to the windshield, effectively sealing the door… so now i’m climbing in and out of the passenger side door which is no small feat… and… yadda yadda yadda… $250 down the drain… it will be fixed tomorrow..

anyway… it’s now Thursday, and late, and i haven’t had a chance to update… life is crazy… but i do want to mention that CMCentral and i are not parting ways, the changes are simply in scheduling… meaning that my reviews are now due on the Friday before the release date… the problem being that i quite often don’t receive the albums before the Friday before the release date… so we’ll see how that works out… so minor changes, but i’m still reviewing four a week for CMC… at least for now… positive accomplishments for today include enhancing a lot of code that i had delivered previously for work and nearly guzzling a full 17 ounce bottle of water in one breath… (i’m such a kid at heart)… if i wasn’t congested, i’m certain that i would’ve made it to the bottom… and now i must deliver my poor beat up “blue knight” to the body shop…

    peace… love… bdg…

okay, so that was fun… one more little note about the Rev Run album… it is a really good album and all, but man, it’s only like 23 minutes long… yeah 23 minutes… so that’s a major… MAJOR downside… so, yeah, i really hope that if there’s another one it’ll be longer…

one other reason for fanboy-like behavior… Rocky 6 is officially a GO!… yeah, i know, it’s probably gonna stink royally and it’s gonna mess up the fact that i have a box-set of the first five movies on DVD and now there’s going to be a sixth that i’ll either have to strap onto the side with a rubber band or break down and buy a “new” box set… yeah that won’t happen… anyway… about Rocky 6… well, it’ll officially be called “Rocky Balboa” but i’m thinking that maybe it’s the story of George Foreman… well, a white George Foreman… and if it starts off with Rocky selling some grilling tools on an infomercial… i may never even see the whole thing… anyway… ROCKY! YAY!…

if you’re wondering why i’m not writing my reviews right now… well, times they are a-changing… more on that later but here’s the latest batch that’s been up on CMCentral… not sure how good the latest four really are, since i wrote them while on vacation and i was more focused on sleeping in and relaxing and stuff…

    CMCentral

  • Kevin Max – The Imposter

  • Ginny Owens – Welcome Home
  • Life In Your Way – [ignite and rebuild]
  • LA Symphony – Disappear Here
  • Sara Groves – Add to the Beauty
  • Kirk Franklin – Hero
  • Aly & AJ – Into the Rush
  • yes… as always a wide… wiiiiiide variety… sometimes i wonder how my head can hold it all in… before i go… and tomorrow i’ll try to talk about my vacation… but i want to get outta here soon and i want to bring this up before i forget… Ginny Owens and Sara Groves are apparently on the same schedule… they always seem to release albums a week apart… and it’s always tough to review them because they are similar aritsts… and people tend to enjoy them both and appreciate them about the same… but, i always end up giving Sara a higher score than Ginny… and i’ll tell you why… Ginny’s albums are great and they’re a lot of fun… the kind of albums you want to date and hang out with a lot… but Sara’s albums… now those are albums that make you start thinking about marriage and raising kids together… so i’m sorry Ginny, you’re just not… marriage material… something like that anyway…

    i’m listening for a still, small voice…

by the way… i’m on vacation… gone for a week footloose and littles-free… so also, my online time is limited (by choice) and i’ll not be around… but i’m sure i’ll have stories to tell upon my return…

    general04 Oct 2005 02:58 pm

Not sure why, but i haven’t been able to update… well, scratch that… i do know why… i’ve been working ridiculous hours… on a project that may actually get used… see that in and of itself is monumental… it’s not that i don’t do good work… it’s that the organization that i work for changes directions far too often and well, to be honest, the people i work with don’t really regard my opinion or thoughts or code or time or whatever… eh, i shouldn’t talk about this… i’ve been working long hours and i’ve been mentally drained… bottom line… i did however, decide on yet another endeavor that i’m going to try out in the near future… time of course will tell, but it’s exciting, it involves the TRu and it’s like nothing i’ve ever set out to accomplish before… so much so that i would consider this to be a “crazy” idea…

anyway, here’s some reviews to check out… i’m currently working on twelve more for this week…
