EDIT: Added a Walk TRu for Hello Kelly’s Modern Day Fades Away and P.O.D.’s The Warrior EP Volume 2TRudATmusic.com

before i get into anything, i just want to say for the record… Bono without sunglasses is like Darth Vader without the mask… it’s alarming, disturbing and i don’t think it should be allowed to continue…

i also want to say that i’m most thankful that Thanksgiving is over… my holiday was dreadful and involved awkward moments galore with the in-laws, some random family that somehow shared our meal with us, the littles bunking together, learning the hard way that little boy is allergic to cats, small amounts of sleep, surprise babysitting, and on and on and on… and the worst part of it all is that after all that, i get to return to work, exhausted and having not accomplished nearly what i had hoped to accomplish… such… is… life…

let’s see… well, it’s been a while since i linked my reviews here i think… so here’s a catch-up session…

  • they sure do add up quickly… also this week, something that will likely keep me from updating here very much… i’m running a week long celebration of the EP format… this coverage (if all goes well) will include two editions of the Morning Walk TRu every day this week covering a variety of EPs that have released in the last couple years… and if i have a chance, a little feature-style writeup about the EP format… i thought it would be a cool thing and hopefully you will too… the first two entries are up, I’ve Always Loved You EP, by Addison Road and Just Until, by Kierra Kiki Sheard

i would also like to dig into that question i posted a while ago about ecumenicalism, and my current employer, and Bono and the latest U2 DVD, and all that jazz… but i don’t have time… so, instead of resolving an open issue, i’ll open another… here’s a question for you… before they ate the fruit, were Adam and Eve perfect?… i have thoughts that have been plaguing me on this topic the last few days… but again, not enough time to type them all out today…

still kind of in a funk… got some things to write about though… first a rant…

this week, my church had a special, traveling evangelist as a guest speaker for all of our services… i’ll neglect to mention his name to be polite and also to assume that this doesn’t apply specifically to him… Anyway… this guy comes in and preaches at all the services with the intent to have a big “successful” altar call at the end… and by successful i mean that i’m pretty sure he sizes up the crowd and picks a number before he begins and won’t stop until he’s gotten that many responses… it’s kind of annoying to sit there and listen to it, so we bypassed the sanctuary and went to our Sunday school class and then taught the 3 year olds… (we generally alternate Sundays between SS and Sanctuary anyway)… however, as annoying as it is to sit there and hear the veiled threats of eternal damnation, it’s harder to be teaching a bunch of three-year olds in extra innings… so here we are, crossing past the 12 o’clock hour… noon… kids are hungry… usually five to ten minures to go… and we’re still holding strong… in fact… it wasn’t until 45 minutes later that the parents started coming by to pick up their kids… 45 minutes…

before i go too far into this complaint, let me first assure you that i’ve been over and over this in my head and i’ve seen this from several angles… i realize, yes, that if even one person came to Christ as a result of the extra 45 minutes of bullying, it was well worth my inconvenience… however, what bothers me is that this guy is trying to reach non-Christians by treading all over Christians… all kinds of images rush to my head about this… like a football player jumping off of a teammate’s back trying to block a field goal… it’s illegal, the team will be penalized and he’s risking the threat of injury to his teammate… or perhaps being cut off in traffic by a car bearing a Jesus fish…

bottom line…being a Christian doesn’t mean you can be inconsiderate of other Christians even if you tell me you have good intentions of leading others to Christ…

anyway… it’s SNOWING!… it’s almost Thanksgiving and i’m thankful, even though i’m not at all excited about the festivities… oh, except for the Football of course… yay for that… i hope you all have a groovy Turkey Day and don’t plump up too much…

currently feeling… stagnant… i should be writing my reviews… or at least something… but i cant put 2 thoughts together right now… so much on my mind…

here’s one question that i’ve been pondering… “when does ecumenicalism become polytheism?”…

i don’t know… must get some fresh air and regroup…

I know it’s been a while but it seems like it’s been one very long never-ending day to me and i hardly even know where to begin, but i know i don’t have the time to write it all down much less the ability to write in such a way that you all would read through everything at once… so what i’ll try to do is ignore the past “day” and start back where i really left off…

so it’s Friday (for all intents and purposes)… it’s kind of rainy… and we’re expecting my parents to come down and settle in to watch the boys for a week while we escape to our pseudo-second honeymoon… actually, i’m on my way home early from work, planning to stop by the new barbershop to get a trim and look stunning for my wife during the trip… sidenote: in a recent discussion someone told me about a girl who was having marital problems and decided to “let herself go”… so not the right course of action… not that physical appearance should be the basis of a marriage, but come on, think about it… anyway, i got my haircut, got a weird call on my cell phone that said it was my parents but was some lady asking for “Carl”… not me… anyway, i fill up with gas and head home to find that my parents are surprisingly somewhat on schedule… they’ll be there for dinner… and they are… and we get everything squared away for the coming week… all the meals were prepared and we gave them four pages of instructions and a self-made maual to understanding my entertainment system and we figure they should be set… funny how our parents somehow managed to raise us and they need everything spelled out for them when attending to their grandkids… i mean, it really makes me wonder how i managed to survive…

i feel like i’m dragging… anyway… we left Saturday after lunch heading about 2 hours away to Virginia’s premier four-season resort… Massanutten… it’s a timeshare… my parents are silly enough to own a timeshare and they’ve owed us a week’s stay since we got married and could only take one week to honeymoon… we couldn’t check in for a couple hours after we got there so we decided to make use of a nearby strip mall and ransack a dollar store, a drug store and a grocery store… great fun though it felt a bit weird without the kids… fast forward…

checked in, drove up the mountain, pulled into the spot outside our “five-star” shanty for the week… yeah, shanty, the couch was terribly uncomfortable, the mattress left us achy after a full night’s sleep and it just wasn’t overly impressive… the plus side was that it had a full kitchen (if you count a plug in two burner stove top that was stowed away in the cupboard)… and nice jumbo bathroom with a a hot tub and a two-headed shower which, is a weird thing to get used to, water beating down on you from both sides – there’s no escaping… plus, also on the shower topic, one side lost hot water quicker than the other which made it even stranger… anyway, enough bathroom talk… there was also a pretty nice view… picture below (i know it’s a repeat)…

Well, you might think that the week flew by, but not really… i think it’s all in how you pace yourself i guess…the week actually went pretty slow… i think contributing factors were that we had no specific agenda, we seriously just kind of meandered about a lot and, though we did schedule some things we really just had the goal of relaxing and really did that… Sunday also marked the start of our colonix experiment… yes colonix… so here’s the thing… we found this treatment system that includes pills, tea, and a shake… you’re supposed to take the pills which are basically some sort of fiber in the morning (two a day for the first week, four a day beyond that) with eight ounces of water… twenty minutes later, you’re supposed to drink this shake, which is basically some powdered fiber mixed in with eight ounces of water or 100% orange juice… then immediately after the shake you’re supposed to drink another eight ounces of water… throughout the day, you’re supposed to drink at least fifty-six more ounces of water and then before you go to bed, you drink a tea that “prepares you for the next day”… okay… so it’s pretty clear, right, fiber and water… this treatment really just makes you go to the bathroom a lot… since this isn’t something most people (myself included) really worry about, and since any reasonable person would choose the cheaper root of getting regular fiber pills or whatever, there’s also stories of parasites, bugs, worms, dragons, what have you living in your intestines and ruining your life… basically, the added bonus of this expensive treatment is the slaying and passing of such beasts which results in a cleaner digestive system and a trimmer physique… (they do take up space, after all)… we have this all on the good word of people who have taken the treatment, played with their poop and posted pictures on the internet of the strange things they found…

anyway… i agreed to participate in this 30-day experiment and we thought it was a good idea to start on our vacation… so here’s the thing… the pills are disgusting… to wake up in the morning, pop these nasty horse pills in my mouth and gag as i flushed them down with eight ounces of lukewarm water (cold water, by the way isn’t nearly as good for you as room-temperature water, duh) really wasn’t a very pleasant experience each morning, then to follow with a very gritty, very difficult to drink “shake” really didn’t make things any better… oh, and then eight more ounces of water… so here i am, up for 20 minutes, i’ve already consumed 24 ounces of fluids and i’m sick to my stomache from gagging on them all… this nausea lasted most of the morning and, if i lost any weight, i’m sure it’s because i didn’t feel like eating anything… honestly, i felt like i was pregnant with morning sickness and frequent trips to the bathroom… the tea was fine, but i’m pretty sure it didn’t do anything but lighten my wallet… and the results? well, after five days, i was entirely constipated… (i don’t mean to be so forward, but there’s no better way to say it really)… and then i was feeling sick because of that… by day seven, we were supposed to double the dosages and i managed to get it down and check out from the timeshare only to find myself facing the wrong way in a public restroom stall… yeah, i lost it all… and so much more… and as i physically washed my face and hands in the sink, i also washed my hands of the whole thing… my wife has continued without any results to write home about, but after a day off, i was back on “schedule” and feeling better… i still drink 64 ounces of water a day, because that’s a good idea… but no more of that junk for me thankyouverymuch…

more to come later… if you really want to read more of my words, check out the Morning Walk TRu i posted today featuring the upcoming release from Derek Webb, Mockingbird over at the TRu
