EDIT AGAIN: Oh, also, if you like Paul Wright… the Midnight Sonnet EP is now on iTunes…

EDIT: (i also added in the weigh-in figures inline with the story)… so here’s the linkage:

  • this morning i was cut off in traffic by a guy driving a Ford F-250 with the license plate “666&ME”… obviously a dentist, but what’s weird is that i always figured the antichrist for a Dodge man, you know with the ram logo and all…

days two and three have come and just about gone… it’s kind of been a whirlwind which i suppose isn’t a bad thing… yesterday i learned that even though nothing is about me, i do have a purpose… i’m not an accident… it’s slightly confusing (of course, i am playing dumb) because one day i may have a purpose but it’s not really about me… now it’s “my” purpose… i guess i’ll bite and accept that it’s “my” purpose for His glory… i can handle that… though, i wonder, did he need to take a chapter trying to convince me that i did have a purpose? would i have picked up the book without already believing that? anyway… today i learned all about the possible things that “drive” me… and it makes sense… then the chapter continued to tell me the benefits of finding and focusing on my purpose… benefits for me… and suddenly the whole chapter started being about me… and here i thought nothing was about me… it’s getting pretty deep i think… maybe i’m being a little harsh…

on to the diet… after the special treatments, breakfast yesterday was 2 hard-boiled eggs and, oh, yeah, i forgot to mention before…this diet was almost a zero coffee diet… fortunately, i can slide by with “organic” coffee beans freshly ground and flavored with “organic” milk and “organic” sugar… preferably raw honey… whatever… i get my coffee still… not that i’m addicted or anything, but now i really savor it as it’s the only flavored drink i get… everything else is water… ok… lunch yesterday was actually awesome… asian red meat salad… bean sprouts, peas on the pod, peppers, and london broil steak bits covered with seasame seeds and a dressing… mmmmm… loved it… and it was huge, so i was well fed… after the wretched spoonful of CLO, dinner featured a salad and delicious salmon covered in some sort of pesto – which i think translates to “paste” – which did its darndest to ruin the taste of the salmon… also was a serving of gingered carrots… very salty… for a snack i got to have celery and carrot sticks with natural peanut butter… not too bad… my weigh in landed me at 187.0, so a total of 3.5 pounds missing since day one so far… i don’t expect it to keep going down though, it’s been known to fluctuate in general…

today i had the same breakfast, but for lunch i only got some celery and carrot sticks and a small portion of tuna fish… on my way home i was starving… i got home for dinner which was halibut, salad, and some of that super hot soup from Monday… again not a bad day for food… snack is apparently yogurt and blueberries… i’m not a yogurt guy, so we’ll see how this goes… anyway… no weigh in yet obviously… EDIT: Weigh in last night was 185.5 making 5 pounds lost in three days… today shouldn’t hinder it at all since i can’t eat until dinner…

so other stuff… i conducted an interview yesterday with the boys of Building 429 and today with Jadon Lavik… tomorrow is Shawn McDonald and if you’d like to submit a question, feel free to do so… i’ll definitely consider it… i generally don’t have the questions until about an hour or so before the interview when my stomache is already writhing with nerves… i know, i shouldn’t be nervous… but i am… maybe someday in about ten years or so, i’ll stop being nervous… i have to say that it’s pretty tough to do so many interviews in so short of a time… coming up with worthwhile or creative questions gets harder and harder… i suppose it’s a good testing ground for GMA week though… we’ll see how that goes… anyway, three down, three to go… oh… and i’m back in the next issue of HM… just gotta write something now… nothing like a good roller coaster…

also, we got some snow this morning which is cool… mind you i enjoy cold weather… temperatures down in the 30s and 40s are wonderful… the problem is that even though the snow didn’t accumulate at all, traffic was full of people freaking out… took me well over an hour to get to work… bummer bummer bummer… although to be fair i was out of it enough to have driven most of that way with my interior dome light on thinking that i had turned on my headlights… yeah… splendid… i was about my wits enough to mop up the chess board with my co-worker today though… he had me pinned in the corner for a while and then WHAM! the old rope-a-dope took effect and i laid the smack down…

anyway… i should get getting… i have a busy week ahead of me… and i’m behind on so much i’m turning into an… ah, well… you get the idea… tomorrow morning will bring my weigh in results, this week’s Walk TRu (i know, a little late – but it’s a good one)… and the collection of reviews from this past week… for once, i’m getting a lot of positive feedback… it’s a good break from those Ava-hounds… (i jest, everyone’s entitled to an opinion)…

so here we go… day one has come and gone… and… it’s not at all about me… Rick was on FIRE for the first chapter, calling me self-centered and what not for four or five compelling pages… unfortunately i was caught without my purpose-driven pen and purpose-driven journal so, i’m kind of winging it on these notes here… it’s okay though, because it’s not like it’s about me anyway… honestly though, i didn’t have too many problems with what day one had to say…

On to the diet… Sunday night i “weighed in” for kicks and landed a solid “score” of 190.5 (have i said too much?)… anyway… this is more than a diet if you’re unaware… much like a migrane is more than just a headache… there’s a lot involved with special soaps and ear drops and face dunkings and special scents and stuff like that… anyway… breakfast was a couple fried eggs… can’t complain… lunch was celery and carrot sticks and a soup… now i’m not exactly what you would call a soup person… to me soup is simply vegetable bath water… and i’d much rather eat vegetables than drink the bathwater that cleans them… anyway… this particular soup was based in coconut milk and featured the tasteful stylings of jalapeƱo peppers, chicken and some leafy thing that i should know the name of… it was pretty good actually… REALLY REALLY hot… but i managed to tough it out and go through the bowl without water… i did cry and go through a few tissues though… on to dinner… well, before dinner i was treated to a spoonful of cod liver oil and yes it does taste as nasty as it sounds… i mean none of those three words sounds appetizing or enjoyable… blech… but dinner was london broil steak which was perfection… and a salad… good times… weigh-in last night 187.5… not sure that it means anything yet though…

ok i’m’ off… i got through another interview today… two more this week and a meeting tonight at church… such a busy guy, you’d think i was important… but you’d be wrong, i’m just me… later…

well… the stars or something are still aligned against me… last night was one of those times where you just about want to spew profanities non-stop for hours on end before you realize that you’re at a concert that is all about worshiping God and that you’re really begging to be stricken by several bolts of lightning for disrupting the atmosphere… or maybe that’s just me… i wasn’t always so in control of my tongue and such as my high school friends can attest to… anyway… more on that in a bit…

Currently, i’m listening to the song “Peachy” by Family Force 5… definitely the most energetic and enthusiastic new bands i’ve come across in a while… and yesterday, of course, i had an interview scheduled with the leader of the pack, Soul Glow Activator… as it turned out, he dropped me onto a speaker phone and i got to chat a bit with the whole lot of them… i think i speak for all of us when i say that a good time was had by all… we laughed, we cried – well, Phatty cried – and we all left on good terms… i think overall that the interview went well, despite being very quick… next week finds me with three more interviews… and two more the following week… i guess i just don’t know how to ease into things… it’s a FULLON BLITZ BABY!…

so back to the concert… or what i thought would be a great time… i think i’ve mentioned that i was trying to get these concert tickets set up for about four months now and i was absolutely overjoyed when i found out last week that it was finally all set… so then, the first bit of misinformation was that iTickets.com had the wrong time listed for the concert… therefore my plans were doomed from the get go… i had planned on the concert starting at 7:30 when it in fact started at 7… although, it wouldn’t have been a complete loss, since i had planned to get there by 7 to allow for time to settle in and such… except that traffic was outrageous and it took over an hour and a half to get parked and over to the will-call window… to top it off, my tickets were NOT in fact waiting for me… and i was unrecognized by anyone regardless of who i talked to… all this hassle led to one crucial thing… DC*B had performed and were long gone before i was inside the venue… that makes me zero for four in my attempts to see them live over the last year… we did get to see Third Day, but it was really more like a solid kick in the gut knowing what i missed… especially when Mac started talking about David Crowder coming back out to sing a song with Third Day… but that didn’t happen either… so, the long and the short of it… grrrrr….

something else notable, i’m beginning a 40 day Maker’s Diet experience on Monday… i’m not kicking and screaming, but i’m sure not jumping for joy… but, i figure that misery loves company, so i’m also going to make myself suffer through the 40 days of purpose simultaneously… yeah, whole lot of church-ese going on there… there will be reports from this new battle line i’ve drawn… i’m sure of that…

in other news, i’m SICK of hearing about Vice President Cheney shooting his hunting buddy and “covering it up”… i’m sorry, but he does NOT need to make a statement about something like this… this country is getting out of control, lusting after information… but that’s a path i don’t have time to head down… i need to get going… i’m watching “The Visitation” which comes out at the end of this month… i’ll be covering it in my next issue of The RunDown for CMC… speaking of which… reviews are calling…

happy “doghouse day”… i call it that because i’m sure a number of my guy friends are currently in the dog house because of yesterday’s celebrations… or lack thereof… for the record i am not in the dog house… though i certainly didn’t go as “all out” as my sweetie did… i was kind enough to let her sleep an extra half hour yesterday morning as i fielded the littles instead of letting them run around in our bedroom in the early AM… (i know it’s only a half hour, but every bit helps and i still had to go to work)… she proceeded to surprise me at work with the boys and a giant homemade heart-shaped cookie to share with the office… little boy gave everyone a treat walking around from office to office shouting “Happy Taltine’s Day!” and giving them napkins to hold their piece of the cookie… he even hit on our temp, telling her that he loved her, but i think it was mostly because she let him play with her Mr Potato Head… after they left, i had to go out to get the office lunch order for our weekly meeting and i found a little treat bag in my car with a card and some “sweet heart” Moose Munch from Harry David… mmmm… yeah, i knew i was way behind… by the time i got home we ate a heart-shaped pizza and exchanged presents… (the boys each got a Little People add on set to the new pirate ship play set and loved it to death)… my wife gave me a copy of Tombstone (Director’s Cut 2-disc special edition) on DVD… and finally it was my turn… i gave her some chocolates, a mix CD and a card in which was a poem that i wrote just for her… mushy stuff… and when the boys were in bed, we played a round of Screen-It which was a Christmas present and features many movies that neither of us has ever heard of… watched Gilmore Girls and American Idol… probably the biggest present was that i didn’t turn my laptop on the whole night… so, there you go… what did you all do for Valentine’s Day? (PG versions please :P)…

so about the big news… yes, i’m much closer to revealing the details… i think it’s about a week away from being ready for public consumption… but i’ll tell you this much… the door i opened sure put me on the radar… my email inbox has been BLOWING UP today… GMA stuff, this, that… everything… craziness… i wonder what i’ve gotten myself into… gonna be a busy schedule to maintain…

tomorrow i am interviewing the Soul Glow Activator from Family Force 5… yeah, i’m certainly gonna ask him what the heck that means… what else should i ask? i have a good idea of what to ask, but i’m open to suggestions… after that, and after work, i get to have a date night, kind of, that involves David Crowder*Band and Third Day… yes… the tickets did come through so we’ll be doing all the fun meet and greet stuff and enjoying the concert up close and personal… coolness… hopefully i’ll have a chance to write something up on it soon… next week looks like i’ll have a whirlwind of interviews and such as well… craziness is ensuing… but hey, i’m one step closer to my goal… anyway, before i forget… here’s the latest from me, the content machine…

Happy Friday everybody… this has been one crazy week… i feel like i did a day’s worth… wait… i feel like i did a week’s worth of work each day this week… but at the same time, i feel like i haven’t really accomplished anything… so good and bad i guess… lots to talk about anyway, so i’ll try to be brief on each topic, much like the football commentators playing comment tag as they each analize the game in 45 second intervals before passing the mic to the next guy at the desk… although, having said that, i’m sure you all know by now to settle on in and make yourself comfortable, because it’ll probably end up being quite long…

first up, SuperBull XL… holy crap are you serious? that was the worst officiating i’ve seen since the Broncos beat the Patriots a few weeks ago… it’s pretty darn hard to score when you get a bogus penalty called every time you get within 10 yards of the end zone… poor Seahawks… some people should NOT be reffing next year… surely they will, but man… this is the ONLY good sport i have left guys… don’t lose me NFL… to make matters worse, i was enduring this game in the home of a Steelers fan who had turned his tablecloth into a giant terrible towel and was trying to justify all the calls the whole game… then at the end as he sat there with a smug little smile on his face telling me how he couldn’t believe it, i could hold it in no longer… “that game is so old news, get over it”… yeah, everyone else cracked up and his bragging rights were cut short… MOVING ON…

whole new line of shirts and stuff over at the official store for TRu-dAT.music, CafePress.com/trudatmusic… the least you can do is check them out… i’m pretty happy with the new design and how they look on the shirts… i’ve had the store for a while, but this is the first time i’ve taken time to do a “serious” design for anything… previously i had the “Mark Stuart makes the ladies swoon” shirt and the pink “TobyMac would wear this shirt” shirt with the rainbow… and the “Stop looking at me clown and peep the TRu” shirt… all of which were good for laughs, but not so much for buying and wearing i guess… the new ones though… they’re pretty dope if i do say so myself… anyone going to GMA Week will probably see me sporting this look all week… nothing like a little publicity… also, if i neglected to mention it before, yes i am going to GMA week this year, if all goes as planned… i’m not sure who i’ll be representing or in what capacity just yet, but that’s part of the “big things”…

without further adieu, i’ll briefly address the the big things… well i’ll give you a couple hints anyway… “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry, I could not travel both and be one traveler… “… that’s one hint, taken from “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost… the second hint, “Monsters, Inc”… doors flying by and shuffling under and around me… there is one right door… i’d also like to issue a warning… before you issue God a challange or even a request that you believe to be within His will for your life… be ready… yeah… be… ready….

David Crowder*Band is coming here soon to kick off their tour with Third Day… i’ve been trying to get comp tickets since November… still nothing… i have less than a week now… maybe i’ll be there, maybe not… i think i’ve shared in the past, the bad fortune i’ve had trying to see them live in the past… hopefully that changes in the next few days… EDIT:  A COLLISION IS HERE!!!!!!!

Crosswalk.com has started reposting my CMCentral.com reviews in their “Fun” channel… thanks to leslisings i was alerted to this behavior and was able to get to the bottom of it all… apparently they sought out CMCentral and got permission to cross promote (no pun intended) CMC by reposting the reviews and linking back… loads more exposure which is cool… something that will come in handy i’m sure… what really made me chuckle is that about 7 years ago, I applied to Crosswalk.com as a writer and i was turned down flatly… now they’re seeking me out… cool stuff…

Uncool stuff includes the email i got today informing me that i was dumped from the may/june issue of HM Magazine… this makes three in a row and i’m starting to think that there’s something more going on than i’m being told… anyway… one of my goals this year is to get more exposure… print magazines are my target and this is a minor setback… we’ll press on though… also uncool, Hip Hop for the Soul… i think i’ve complained that a few reviews i’ve turned in over there back in August still haven’t seen the light of day… well, i was recently assured that things had turned around and after much prodding, i turned in another review over there… almost a week ago now… nope, it’s not up either… i’m beginning to think it’s time to cut ties…

i am committed to writing a few reviews over at SphereOfHipHop.com each month now too, which is pretty cool… that’s been something of a goal as well, since that’s “the” hip hop site to watch… very popular site and what not… the challenge, my first assignments could certainly polarize my audience depending on how i write them… i know you can’t please everyone, but man, this is a tough one… we’ll see how that goes… also cool… “the RunDown” is doing pretty well… apparently people are interested in the “fringe” media (books, videos, etc)… looks very certain to be a recurring hit…

before i forget, if someone who still watches Smallville (if there are any viewers left) could please explain to me how the heck they can kill off Superman’s dad, when he has been in all the other Superman shows/movies with Clark as a man… i’d appreciate that… also, did anyone watch 7th Heaven last week?… i know, i’m not sure whether i should be more ashamed that i watch the show still or that i have to stoop so low to find a show that doesn’t assault my conscience every minute or so… anyway… it was all about music and one thing that stood out was, obviously, a mention of hip hop… and that 70% of all hip hop albums are purchased by white teens… (something like 70% anyway, i’m sure they didn’t fact check)… anyway, an interesting explanation for this percentage was racism… the idea was that white teens support hip hop because it provides a negative image of minorities and we like to keep the minorities looking bad… i think it’s absurd, but it was interesting…

now for some substance… “The Miracles of Jesus“… and what they mean… jeepers it was over a month ago by now, but i watched a three-part special on the Discovery Channel featuring Brock Gill, the master illusionist who also happens to be a Christian… the premise was that he was going to be exploring and attempting to recreate the miracles recorded in the Bible as illusions to prove whether or not Jesus was legit as God or whether he was a sneaky illusionist like Brock… well it didn’t turn out to be anything like i expected it to be, but i did come away from it with some fascinating (to me) insight into the miracles… as it turns out, many of the miracles that Jesus performed paralleled miracles that had occurred in the Old Testament… four that were mentioned specifically were: the raising from the dead of a widow’s son in the same town where Elijah had raised a widow’s son from the dead… Jesus miraculously feeds multitudes much like Moses was able to keep the Israelites fed in the desert… Jesus walks on water, in the Sea of Galilee which feeds the Jordan river, which Joshua crossed without getting his feet wet… Jesus calms the winds and the sea displaying the power that was previously only held by God…

that in and of itself got me interested… then when i started thinking about it even more, i asked the question, “what does this mean?”… and it dawned on me… Jesus was making distinct statements with each miracle that He did… what were these statements?… first, that He was the next great prophet, in the tradition of Elijah… He had the insight and message from God to share with the world around Him… (in fact, He was the Word in flesh)… second, He was the next great deliverer for God’s chosen people, in the pattern of Moses, delivering them from the slavery of their legalistic thinking and lifestyles… third, He was the next great redeemer, leading God’s chosen people into the promised land, much like Joshua led the Israelites into the land of milk and honey… and finally, He was God, with the power and authority to control all things, nature, life, everything… i realize that i just breezed trough all that, but i think you get the point… it is really powerful to think about how calculated Jesus’s actions were…

anyway… i think i’m about out of time… i didn’t get a chance to get into “my enemies” or “a life worthy” both of which i meant to… but don’t worry, i’ll get to them sooner or later… time now to close this out with some reviews and stuff before i head over to work on next week’s reviews…

If peace is the plan, how do you claim peace with a piece in your hand?” – Odd Thomas

interesting album i’ve been fortunate enough to get ahold of… anyway… this is real short, hopefully sweet… i have lots to work on as always… father in law on his way down for the weekend and i’m not certain that i’m up to the psychological and mental strain… there’s a war going on… something like that… anyway, what i really wanted to say is that i’m totally predicting that the Steelers will win the Superbowl… and yes, it is because i hate the Steelers and that i know that my picks are always wrong… here’s to crossed fingers and underhanded plans…

also for those of you interested, i now have a new feature over at CMCentral.com and it’s currently (last i checked anyway) shining in the spotlight of the front page feature article… direct link is this one… i’m pretty happy with it… it’s the first of a monthly series and this one talks about books… enjoy…
