EDIT: i must say that watching my boys watching Peter Pan is quite therapeutic… they are so into that movie right now, clicking along with the crocodile’s tick-tocks, and just having a blast… it is a new day…

if anyone has an “in” with someplace that would pay me about $1500/month to write fabulous interviews, articles and/or album reviews… or advertisers who would like to invest in my work at theTRu, please let me know, because MY GOSH I AM ENTIRELY FED UP…

in other news, i added a special feature about hymns – kind of an advert-orial in that someone was paid handily to make sure that i mentioned a certain product in a feature… but the opening paragraph and the recomendations at the bottom are legit… and a really sweet interview with Nate Sallie over at said source of my frustrations… i think they’re worth checking out…

oh, here’s another idea… maybe we can all pool our resources and stage a hostile takeover…

maybe someday things will get better…

ps. for the record, i’m not necessarily happy that Chris got the boot, but i really have a hard time liking him…

peace… love… bdg…

TEN LITTLE (INSERT NON-RACIALLY SPECIFIC TERM HERE)

  • Lakisha (Soul Train): i’m running a bit behind here tonight… i’m kind of confused as to the length of tonight’s show actually… an hour an 7 minutes? is that right?… Lakisha isn’t dong too badly… Dance With Me… yeah… i don’t know… it was a little pitchy in spots… but i think she’s selling it well enough… okay… yeah… 67 minutes… weird… anyway… the judges liked her… big surprise… again, i liked it… not too bad… disco ain’t dead sucka…
  • Chris (Sloppy Fro) Sligh: oh great… everyone’s favorite smart um… The Police… oh great… Gwen looks pretty sweet in that outfit… okay… yep… barely into the song and he’s jumping ahead of the beat… if only this joker would spend more time figuring out what rhythm means and less time scouring the internet for funny one-liners to try and make his way through to the next round… ow that’s some rough notes there at the end… ehh… not so hot… the rhythm is gonna get you… i wouldn’t mind seeing him go this week… alright… Simon is letting him have it…
  • Gina (hand on the) Glock-son: Now surprise that Gwen is one of Gina’s heroes… well, Gina bambina… this week is your second chance since i’d have voted you out last week… but well… this is kind of a boring song, am i right? well there’s some edge there… i like that… i don’t understand the outfit though… and again not bad, but the vocals round out to being quite shaky throughout… and the judges say…
  • San-jambalaya: HA HA HA HA HA…. oh my gosh… i think his pregnant mind gave birth and left a whole mess of after birth hanging off of his head… don’t they have stylists for this show?… don’t you mean “my kind of guy?” … oh dear… i don’t think there’s anything good to say…
  • Haley (Don’t Hurt Me): wait, Haley’s still here? oh… that’s right, she’s the one selling her body… starting out in the Kat pose that worked well last year… eh… man, i really find this song annoying… but hey, she’s on pitch mostly… just kind of boring… she’s… okay never mind that was a hot mess at the end there… why on earth… ?
  • Phil (the Pill): love this song… and you know what i love about Gwen? she’s the first guest who’s like really honest… oh man… DUDE… PHIL BABY… you’re rocking the crap out of this song… see guys, i freaking told you that he has a good voice… FINALLY, he shows it off… that was really hot… i’m with that… man… yeah… three girl race? not anymore… maybe…
  • Melinda (The Good Dr) Doolitle: look at Melinda get her groove on… more disco baby… and hey… is it just me or was she maybe reading this here blog last week because this is definitely a different style for her… shows a bit of range and it’s still amazing vocally… yee ha… no chills this week… Phil actually took that honor, but yo that was hot too… again… blows Lakisha away…
  • Bl-Bl-Blake: okay… The Cure… another similarity to one Kevin Max… alright… yeah… his vocal is certainly not the strongest here… but yeah he’s pretty on point… and the cool thing is that dude knows what his limits are and he knows how to play right to his strengths… very nicely done…
  • Jordin (The Firecracker): Hey baby, Hey babaaaay… oh… not feeling the outfit… she must’ve gotten stuck with Sanjaya’s stylist… oh… Jordin… oh… no dear… no… this reminds me of when Paris tried to pull off a Beyonce song last year… and sorry, but this has just fallen flat… i mean really flat… dang… well, i really hope that she’s safe… but i wasn’t feeling that at all…
  • Chris (Richie) Richardson: heh… vocal olympics… nice… see… Gwen’s the BOMB… i like the band so far… i’m not sold on Mr. Richardson to be perfectly honest… very shaky on some of these notes and there’s the old hee haw dance… yeah, no… i’ll pass… he just tries to do too much…
  • Bottom Line: i think i always pick these too quickly… but i’m in the habit, so here goes… Bottom 3?: first let me say again… “dang, Phil was good”… okay… Bottom 3: Sloppy Fro, Gina and Chris Richardson… going home… (my boldest pick of the year) Sloppy Fro…

    peace… love… bdg…

    general20 Mar 2007 04:24 pm

EDIT 1: since no one has commented, yet…

    Speaking of remedy… (last paragraph)

EDIT 2: Also worth noting… a contest for a free Nativity Story DVD

    EDIT 3:AMERICAN IDOL…

11 left and it’s British Invasion night… Simon, not dressed? no thanks…

  • Haley (Don’t Hurt Me): singing Tell Him… ok… well, i wouldn’t have guessed by this rendition that it was a British song… or that it was a good song, really… she’s always got some weird oddity about herr wardrobe… does that not look like a tail to everyone else… she’s kind of slutting it up – i mean, working it… i don’t know that she’ll ever be much more than a wedding singer to be honest… it worked pretty well, but it’s just not all that dazzling to me… hmm… the yo factor, flirtatious, naughty little thing… there you go… oh, she said something about prayer, maybe GMA will latch onto her this week too…
  • Chris (Richie) Richardson: Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying… oh, he’s got his own little guitar player… and the video closeup is on the guitar… good choice for a backdrop… i wouldn’t want my face plastered on that big screen behind me when i was singing… well… he’s actually doing a good job… i dig that bridge… finally, he’s not over singing it… i like it… now i finally see some potential in him… good deal…
  • Stephanie: You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me… okay, i won’t… anyway, Beyonce? didn’t she ruin a Beyonce song in the previous rounds… i think so… this song always makes me think of Rocky… that intro is so Rocky-ish… btw Rocky Balboa came out today… btw… she’s completely falling apart here on the chorus… i think she sounds very so so… like someone with a regular voice pretending she has a great voice… not feeling it at all… once again, she lives up to her status of having no nickname…
  • Bl-Bl-Blake: ha… he’s a spitter… that’s for sure… but man, i’m excited about it… if anyone’s got a “yo” factor, it’s Blake… Time of the Season… today is the first day of Spring, no?… Paula is strip-teasing or something… this is a rather controlled performance… Blake looks a bit Kevin Max to me… i think his vocals are a bit better than last week… but, it’s clear that he’s holding back a bit and it’s perhaps too much? i’m not sure… i do like it a lot though… it’s BANGING…
  • Lakisha (Soul Train): Diamonds are forever… what? Kanye West is from England?!? okay, i jest… but dang… that’s all i’m gonna be able to think about… you know… she’s fumbling this week… i’m gonna go ahead and say it… she is not at all overpowering… she’s not even that impressive… in fact… i daresay she’s off… i’m sure that she’ll be safe, but yo, she’s not here this week… weakest week yet for big momma… a million dollars worth of diamonds, that’s the most impressive part of tonight…
  • Phil (the Pill): GMA’s newest darling singing Tobacco Road… there must be a joke there somewhere… seriously… dude’s got a really good voice… and he’s working the stage a bit better this week… the band is phenomenal… i think i like this… i just have a hard time believing it… maybe it’s that he seems like such a straight-laced guy and when he lets loose, it just looks pretty weird… oddly though, his performance is better than his vocals today… i can dig it a bit though… not too bad…
  • Jordin (The Firecracker): I who have nothing… aargh… sorry, i had some serious issues with my browser there during this song… but hey yo… she’s got nothing but a dang good voice… i loved it… she passed Lakisha on that one… BOOYA… that was a HOT ONE BABY… remarkable vocal…
  • San-jambalaya: oh really, you don’t think that your the best singer, do you? at least you’re not completely dumb… oh dear Lord… why couldn’t my browser had freaked out during this song… my goodness… it’s simply DREADFUL… LOL he made that poor little girl cry… oh my gosh… i’m crying too… please please… make it stop… what the HECK has this come to?… yeah, let’s hear the judges say nothing nice about this…
  • Gina (hand on the) Glock-son: Paint It Black… this is a shaky start… i mean it’s not horrible, but it’s definitely a little off and whenever she holds a note, she seems to be literally shaking and she’s just a bit flat… i do like the energy… it’s a good song choice for her i suppose… but unfortunately it shows that she’s not the strongest of vocalists… i think Haley was actually a better singer tonight than her… ah well… not too, too bad, but she’s clearly outclassed…
  • Chris (Sloppy Fro) Sligh: Zooombie, Zoombie… sorry, She’s Not There… ooh, he’s in the crowd… and everyone’s laughing at him… what’s up with that? slow down, dude… you’re always ahead of the beat… The vocal is pretty darn good but this whole walking through the crowd thing is like a really bad music video… and oh wow… dude cannot dance… that made me laugh… i’ll give him kudos for vocal and take away a little bit for stage presence… but all in all, not too bad… oh yeah, there… now he’s blabbering again… please don’t interrupt the judges…
  • Melinda (The Good Dr) Doolitle: ah here we go… i cannot wait to hear this one… As Long As He Need Me… you know what we need to see from Melinda that we’re not seeing? variety… i think she sings the same song every week… don’t get me wrong, she’s awesome at that song… but i’d like to see something more… maybe it’s just me… this is a bad song to end on so far… why the heck is that girl always crying… dang… there’s the chills… that’s a mighty fine voice… dang… for real… clearly leagues ahead of every one else… kind of a boring song choice, but she did bring it on a few of those moments…

    Bottom Line: wow… let’s see… bottom three… Gina, Stephanie, and Phil… going home… oh dear… i’m gonna say Gina…or Stephanie… no… Gina… i’m going with Gina

    BACKWATER PROPHETS

wow… i’m officially 30 album reviews behind schedule… fun fun fun… i’ve dug myself quite a hole now haven’t i… and yet here i am, chiming in at the old blog instead of knocking out any of those said reviews… i’m like that Green Day song from back in the day… what was it? Walking Contradiction? something like that… yes… that’s me… i’m just like that… i really just want to make sure that you don’t forget that there’s more to me than snide American Idol commentary…

actually, it’s more accurate to say that i’m bored and stuck in a marketing meeting with a bunch of, well, i’ll leave it at that… why am i in a marketing meeting? well, because our marketing people are terrible at their jobs and they need help… not that the people around this table are much better, but they sure do think they are… someday maybe i’ll figure out why i always end up working with annoying people… right now i assume it’s because people with enough money to pay salaries are generally annoying… anyway…

    FUNDAMENTAL MYSTICISM

i’ve talked before about the podcasts that i listen too regularly and today i want to highly encourage everyone to listen to the Relevant podcasts from the weeks of Feb 23rd (right-click–>save as) and March 2nd (right-click–>save as)… Even if you don’t want to listen to the amusing banter that makes up most of the podcast, do check out the Don Miller interview segments as they are really thought-provoking and inspiring…

The first segment on the 23 Feb begins at about 27:00 and is only about 20 minutes long, but discusses the book that Don is currently working on called A Map of Eden, but the second segment from 2 March (begins about 13:00) last about a half hour or so and hits on some ideas about America’s addiction to money and why that affects our ability to effectively minister to other nations, he calls for a Christian boycott of Christmas as we know it and states that in order to be a fundamentalist, you need to be a mystic… some really great conversation reminding me again, that i could do better as a writer… and that maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to live in Florida if i got to work at Relevant… (or whereever, working for whatever job that actually is enjoyable)…

anyway, i’ve listened to the podcasts a few times now and i’ll probably comment more specifically on some of the points made after you all have a chance to hear it… don’t want to spoil the experience by injecting my thoughts just yet…

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?

so, outside of album reviews, i have been pretty buried in the process of interviewing and getting interviews ready for posting… as such, here’s a batch of recent interviews and other notable content that i’ve gotten posted…

  • John Reuben (CMC)
  • TobyMac (CMC)
  • Jeremy Riddle (CMC)
  • Jackson Waters (CMC)
  • Left to Write: Love (CMC)
  • Relient K (theTRu)
  • Phil Vischer (theTRu)
  • Year End iTRu-nes Playlists

the big major super-exciting project that i was working on has been slightly derailed, but it’s still in the works… interestingly enough i’m finding that i relate more and more to a point brought up in Me Myself and Bob… Phil was talking about how Big Idea had gotten big, but rather than that bigness creating opportunities and freedom to pursue “new” ideas, it actually forced them to focus specifically on their current “branding” in order to simply survive as a company… not that i’m “big-time” or anything, but i really don’t have the creative freedom that i wish i had…

Anyway… coming down the pike by way of interviews that i’ve conducted in the last week or so are: Mike Nawrocki (VeggieTales), Shawn McDonald, Nichole Nordeman, Nate Sallie, Group 1 Crew (probably up tonight at CMC), John Waller (According to John), Mac Powell and David Nasser (Glory Revealed), KJ-52, Verbs and tomorrow i’ll be interviewing Nicole C Mullen in theory (knid of still waiting for more confirmation)… features to watch for include Left to Write, 2oo6 in Re:TRu, Dove Award picks/predictions, The RunDown: On Books, and a few other fun stuff… busy busy bee am i…

    MARCH MADNESS

yeah, so i completely suck at filling out the brackets with winning teams… we’ll leave it at that…

    DISNEY…

sorry, part three is coming soon, i promise… right now i need to steal away early and try to remedy something that’s clearly going on that i’m unaware of how to resolve…

    COMING SOON…

Disney part 3 (etc.), C vs A, Mathematics and Music, Missions, American Idol and more more more…

    spinning round in circles:

    Group 1 Crew – Group 1 Crew
The Showdown – Temptation Come My Way
    Lost Ocean – Lost Ocean
    TobyMac – Portable Sounds
Relient K – Five Score and Seven Years Ago
    Jeremy Riddle – Full Attention
Nate Sallie – Ruined for Ordinary
Seventh Day Slumber – Finally Awake (until this album put me back asleep)
Paul Wright – Wright or Wrong, These Songs are Paul’s

    i’ve got my eye on…

AMERICAN IDO…N’T CARE? OR DO I?

    okay, final 12… let’s get it on…

  • Brandon (Won’t You Be My Neighbor) Rogers: Diana Ross likes him and i do to… yeah, but i think he’s destined to be a backup singer… his voice is just kind of strange and wow, is that a frog? oh nice little Elvis dance and yeah, i’m laughing too dawg… not quite there… ha, Randy says he sounded like a background singer too, i’m so ahead of the curve… Paula says what?… Simon says predictable… and everyone’s mad…
  • Melinda (The Good Dr) Doolitle: yeah, those heels are freakin high… nothing like some gay banter to ease the old nerves for the good doctor… HA… i assume goosebumps are good… now i don’t mean to be rude, but Melinda, where IS your neck, girl? dang though, you can’t ask for a better vocal… that’s freaking brilliant… i have goodbumps… she’s good… i can’t even… i don’t want to interrupt… phew… oh lordy, that’s our winner folks… if not then shame on you all… YeaUH Randy, that is HOT… Paula’s melting into tears… and i think Simon would be too, but he’s laughing too hard… 1-866-IDOLS-02
  • Chris (Sloppy Fro) Sligh: who’s hair is bigger?…. Endless Love? bah… if i wanted to hear this, i’d go rollerskating… woah, he looks weird without glasses… i don’t mean that in a bad way… but you just get used to someone wearing glasses… spealing of weird, Endless Love in triplicates?… oh, yeah, it’s certainly him because he’s flat and ahead of the song… you know, without glasses he kind of looks like Hurley… YES! Coldplay… good call dawg… dang, even Paula called him a poser (in so many words)… and Simon says that he murdered it…
  • Gina (hand on the) Glock-son: Love Child… ooh… pronunciation, i can’t stress it enough… dang, that’s a big necklace… she could pretty much suck and Randy would still give the gals this round i think… anyway, she’s not sucking that much, but she is trying too hard to pronounce every word i think… kind of funny actually in a bitter twist of irony… it’s too straight up for me… very boring in a way… i dig this ending though… despite the screeching…
  • San-jambalaya: i like Ryan’s suit… ok, i’m going to make popcorn and hopefully drown this dude out… it’s probably good that there wasn’t any gay banter between Ryan and Simon with Sanjaya around because it would have been really awkward… swivel hips way off pitch there’s like nothing positive to say… Sanjaya is looking for a whale…

This commentary brought to you by Pop Secret Homestyle Microwave Popcorn… YUMMY! (well, made shorter because of the grease)…

  •

  • Haley (Don’t Hurt Me): you know, she’s kinda cute… she has a pretty face, but kind of in a weird way… like she reminds me of some sitcom actor from back in the day… what the heck is up with that dress? i think her waist or at least her belt is falling off… she’s not got a very good voice… and hey, what… i…um… forgot what i was going to say, but hey, she forgot what she was going to sing, so i guess we’re even… the comments aren’t all that positive… does she have blue hair? my fingers are slippery…
  • Phil (the Pill): based on this behind the scenes, it’s looking good… you know what i’m thinking right now? It’s downright creepy to watch a Peter Furler look-a-like sing a romantic Marvin Gaye song… i’m just saying is all… yes i wheel… yes i waiiiiiiiiiil…. sorry… not for me dude, take the hanger out of your back… strong vocals, i can agree, but he’s got NO soul…
  • Lakisha (Soul Train):Diana is a funny thinker… seriously? stroking your chin? kiki? there’s already a kiki in gospel… ohh… she’s good yeah, there’s something missing though for me… it’s good though… i like this a lot… no chills though… controlled, yeah that’s a good word…
  • Bl-Bl-Blake: yeah another hot suit… yeah, dude could really go off on a Diana Ross song… hip hop loves diana ross samples… love the dancing, how jamiroquai… nice arrangement… the judges don’t like the arrangement… but they make a good point actually… it’s kind of how i felt when i wasted my money on Motown Remixed… Motown is freaking genius and timeless… leave it alone… i can dig that, but i still like Blake’s arrangement… the vocal could’ve been better
  • Stephanie: love this song (the original) not her hair though… or the dress, really… or this performance, really… where’s the payoff… where’s the excitement… why did you stay and Sabrina leave? this brings me right back to when she sang that Beyonce song and i realized then and there that she has no chance of winning… she’s boring through and through… hence why she has no nickname…
  • Chris (Richie) Richardson: it’s good, but you need to find the hook… ha… that’s a nice way of saying what the heck did you do to my song, kid?… i know a lot of people have compared this dude to Justin Timberlake, but when i watch him swing that elbow all i see is Hee Haw… ok, i know i’m old, but come on… Green Acres, Hee Haw.. that kind of thing… slapping your knee swinging your arm in an eggagerated fashion… anyway, the vocals are way too much… and yet not nearly enough… he just doesn’t have it…
  • Jordin (The Firecracker): well, Smitty’s really down with the idea of Jordin winning this thing… if i had to pick a Diana Ross song, i would never ever in a million years (get it) pick one that was in a cartoon… or a ballad really… she’s doing alright with it though… she’s a little off on her tone, but naw… i like it girl… not too shabby… a three girl race… ha, i’ll leave that comment alone…

Bottom Line: phew… tough one to call… so many bad performances tonight… i’m leaning towards a bottom three that includes Brandon, Stephanie and Haley… Going Home… i have to say Brandon…

more coming soon… like, real stuff… not just more fluff

    peace… love… bdg…

  • general06 Mar 2007 10:05 pm

    EDIT:

    THE GALS…

Sorry, no time to comment individually on the girls, but man there were some great performances… really impressed with Melinda, Lakisha, and Gina…

if i had to pick 2 to go, i’d pick Haley and Antonella as they are both kind of like skittish little chipmonks trying to keep up with lionesses…  unfortunately i think Antonella (geesh, how hard was it for her to come up with a secret talent that didn’t take place in the bedroom?) will stay and either Gina or Sabrina will hit the road…

as for the guys, since i didn’t pick yesterday, Sundance and Phil… Sanjaya should obviously, but i’m not holding my breath…

    BREAKING NEWS ABOUT K-OS

    – K-OS is featured in the latest issue of Relevant Magazine

    – K-OS grew up as a Jehovah’s Witness, explored Eastern mysticism in college and then reverted to JW after exploring his faith.

    – i’m probably not supposed to like him any more, but he’s still making some of the best music out there right now and i do still like him…

    ———————–

CALL NOW AND VOTE FOR IDOL ZERO-WHA?

haven’t commented much on AI yet this year, so here… i have a chance and i’m taking it…

  • Blake: clear favorite for me, dude brings energy and, yes, exactly a CURRENT sound… i love me some Motown, but come on yo, it’s 2007 and you’re supposed to be selling albums to us, not 8-tracks to them…of course it’s 311… how could the judges not know that
  • Sanjaya: ugh… please… John Mayer is NOT one of the origianl members of the Jackson 5, please don’t sing his songs in the key of the Bee Gees… darn vote for the worst and all the other sites that keep this guy afloat… HA… Paula hairstyle…
  • Sundance: a faux-hawk, really? good grief that is not a Pearl Jam song… this is another guy that has no business being in this competition still… i may be completely missing the boat, but i haven’t once been impressed with him… and tonight is no different… here’s the thing: Brad Stine is not funnier when he yells and Sundance isn’t a better singer when he yells…
  • Chris R: ok… not too bad… not the best, but well, actually… yeah, no, i liked Blake better, but clearly Chris belongs here… he’s doing his thing and it works… he makes som funny faces though…
  • Jared, Mistah Cah-tear!: the Jared Cotter/John Travolta Face-Off… anyone else remember that movie? Why do guys feel the need to ruin perfectly good Stevie Wonder songs? (on the flipside – Girls/Whitney)… i just wouldn’t do that… besides dating yourself… here’s the thing… i love listening to classic jams like this on vinyl (who doesn’t, right?)… but this is like listening to classic on vinyl that’s been sitting in the hot garage and is now warped and covered with chips and dust… pass…(ps. Cliff Huxtable called, he wants his sweater back)
  • Brandon: okay, i’ve totally been waiting for this dude to shine… i KNOW that he’s got some hot vocals in him somewhere… he just hasn’t shown ANY talent the previous weeks… not sure how he’s made it so far… i’d have taken AJ over him last week to be honest… today i’ll give him points for energy and his voice wasn’t too, too bad… but yeah, the end fell apart… that’s not a good place to fall apart… start strong, finish strong… if you’re going to blow it, blow it in the middle… (ps. did Simon call him Travis?)
  • Phil the Helmet: i’m supposed to like this guy because he went to Lee University… and up until now, i haven’t disliked him… he’s always seemed a bit on the showtunes side for my tastes… and i like showtunes… who’d have figured that a LeAnn Rimes song would be too low for him to register? he sounded like Cher hopped up on cough medicine… ps. Fieval called, he wants his hat back
  • Chris, Sloppy Fro: oh no he didn’t… ok, i love Toby, but no one’s ever accused him of being a good vocalist until Chris Sligh just sang this dcTalk song… that was a really bad song choice and that performance was not good either… ok, mushmouth, stop talking… this is why i really don’t like Chris as the next American Idol… do we really need someone who’s this much in love with himself making third rate records on the biggest stage?… Simon says, “you’ve done what you need to get to the finals” that’s right, you managed to compete the year that none of the guys are all that impressive…

Bottom Line: not a big fan of too much that the guys bring to the table this year, with the exception of Blake and i’m sure that a large part of that is that he has flair…

    okay, back to work…

    peace… love… bdg…

WET PAINT, WEAR A HARD HAT

okay, it’s Monday and by this point in the day, i’ve all but given up on any hopes of accomplishing anything… i should explain a little bit, i suppose, but remember that new laptop i got months ago?… well, i’m finally making the official “switch” over to it as my primary laptop… i know, it’s been a long time, but there were so many issues early on with operating systems and configurations and all that good stuff that the months ached away and then the last month and a half have been so very hectic with work and such that i didn’t have the time to deal with, well the stuff i’m dealing with right now which includes several reboots today to finalize various software updates and other fun things of the kind… so pardon the dust as i settle in, but this is the first official entry from the new laptop… finally…

QUICK HITS, COURTESY OF TERRY TATE

    – iTunes is currently featuring “The Rain” by K-OS as a discovery download or free single of the week or something… that song is beautiful and i highly recommend it… good introduction to K-OS as well…

    – I’m going to do a full-on Dove Awards feature soon, but i can’t hide my disdain for the nominees list this year much longer… i mean, i love Ian Eskelin and all, but seriously, if “Me and Jesus” is one of the best seven songs that Christian music can come up with from the last year, then i’m out… for real… and Stellar Kart for artist of the year? are you KIDDING me? (in the voice of Chandler)… if i didn’t know any better, i wouldn’t understand how much money was spent earning those nominations… (said the guy who watched his editorial powers usurped as his site turned pink out from under him…)…

    – Happy belated birthday to Dr. Suess/Theo. LeSieg… (March 2)… cats and hats off to the man who taught me all the places i could go…

    – [time to reboot yet again]… Adobe, you big rotten menace… why must i reboot after each update only to find out that upon booting back up i need to reboot again?

    BOOK-EM DANN-O

i finally finished Me, Myself and Bob… really cool book and i’ve got a couple of little reviews coming up fpr that… yes, a couple… still plugging away elsewhere… i have about 100 pages left in Beatitude (Matthew Paul Turner) and plenty to go in Rumors of Another World (Philip Yancey) and Relentless (Robin Parrish) – just such a long book and hardcover to boot… and it’s about time i dug back into Walk On (Steve Stockman), The Gospel Unplugged (Rich Wagner), and New Way to Be Human (Charlie Peacock), but my eyes have landed on Real Christianity – by William Wilberforce… it down’t look that long… maybe i can read it really quickly… i’m so bad…

    INHALE, EXHALE, INHALE

Well, things are starting to stabalize a bit and i’m going to have to buckle down soon enough and get some actual work done… but before i bid you adieu here’s Me and the Mouse Part 2…

ME AND THE MOUSE (PART 2)

Day 2, part 2… so we headed off to Downtown Disney, which is really a big shopping plaza (not too unlike the Disney parks themselves, just without any rides)… the main thing to realize as you head to Downtown Disney is that there are a lot of entrances and the one we wanted was the very last one… Disney Lesson # 2: When you’ve given up hope, hold on, it’s probably the next left… for us anyway, we drove the full length of the plaza, past about 15 entry points to get to our desired destination: The Marketplace… Alas, we remained faithful, found a parking spot and entered the gates of merchandising and stood at the largest Disney Store ever imaginable… (note: i have no statistical evidence to back this claim up)…

The giant store known as the world of Disney unfolded section after section with everything you could want from a Disney shopping experience, unless you’re a single guy looking for a date with a Disney Princess which would lead me to wonder why on earth you’re at Disney World in the first place… Anyway, i laughed the loudest at the site of “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique” a “magical” saloon promising to make you feel like a Disney Princess… they’re so clever… there were plenty of cool shirts and gizmos that i’m sure would’ve made me feel as complete as any other material possession had i added them to my collection, but for the most part, i remained a casual observer…

After we made our way through that ginormous store – the pirate section was slow going – we headed over to the real destination of interest: “Once Upon a Toy” a.k.a. the Mr. Potato Head-quarters… in case you’ve never seen this store or heard about it, this is where you can find the most obscure parts for your Mr. Potato Head… Mickey Mouse ears, Mr. Incredible pants and arms, Buzz Lightyear space suit… just about anything (Disney) you can imagine… and the real fun is that they sell the parts by the box… which means it’s a splendid challenge of how much you can cram into a thin cardboard box without watching it explode on the table in front of you… i think we did pretty well, but i realized later that i got two left arms for Mr. Incredible and no right arm… (better than two left feet)…

There are also some cool shops like Team Mickey which featured various jerseys that are very cool, but way too pricey for me to watch the littles grow out of in a month’s time and the LEGO store… marked by some giant LEGO structures including a sea dragon that’s actually in the lake and towers aboveyou as you walk by it… pretty impressive… most of my LEGO structures were cube-shaped buildings and they were never all that large… i could always make a wicked card house though… we cheesed out on dinner and simply went to the big McDonalds that’s in Downtown Disney… trust me, it looks way more impressive than the food supprts… never mind that you basically take the standard McDonald’s pricing and add 15-20% to get these prices… and the real kicker was that they gave the boys some stupid Nickelodeon character toys in the Happy Meals… HELLO? I’M IN DISNEY WORLD!!!!

After a greasy dinner that wasn’t as cheap as we expected, we headed back to the house figuring that the rest of my family would surely have arrived by now… of course, they hadn’t and we spent the next hour or so playing pool and air hockey with the littles and it was actually a bit of fun since i didn’t have to worry about damaging the table which was already in some sad shape… My brother and his family arrived, heralding in new decibels of sound (four kids) and as they were settling in, my parents finally arrived… apparently both my parents and my brother had gotten lost getting to the house, presumably because they forgot how to read road signs… it was clearly marked as far as i could tell…

We settled the kids all snug in their beds – the littles, not being used to sharing a room, didn’t go down quite so easily, but after a dozen reminders or so, they slept – and the adults sat around the common area/family room to discuss the trips and our plans for the week… it was then, that i realized that the couches kind of smelled like wet dog, but i kept this information to myself… We discussed the fact that it was a holiday weekend and that it would probably be wisest to avoid the Magic Kingdom on Sunday and Monday since they would be mobbed with 3-day weekenders… we all agreed that Animal Kingdom would be a good Sunday visit and MGM Studios would be where we (my family) would be going on Monday… these are somewhat secondary parks and we figured traffic would be less… We also agreed that it would be silly to try to keep all 12 of us together during our excursions to the parks… this agreement is important and will come into play later… Disney Lesson # 3: Control your numbers… more on that next time…

IF YOU CAN’T DANCE TO THIS, IT DOESN’T MATTER

hi-ho, hi-ho… ok, i’m off to get something accomplished… no more reboots hopefully and i can focus on some things that will actually result in bills paid… i should do my taxes soon too… according to my schedule, by the end of this week, i’ll have completed six, maybe seven interviews… that’s nuts… why do they always come in droves?…

    spinning round in circles:

    Anberlin – Cities
K-OS – Atlantis: Hymns for Disco
