WET PAINT, WEAR A HARD HAT

okay, it’s Monday and by this point in the day, i’ve all but given up on any hopes of accomplishing anything… i should explain a little bit, i suppose, but remember that new laptop i got months ago?… well, i’m finally making the official “switch” over to it as my primary laptop… i know, it’s been a long time, but there were so many issues early on with operating systems and configurations and all that good stuff that the months ached away and then the last month and a half have been so very hectic with work and such that i didn’t have the time to deal with, well the stuff i’m dealing with right now which includes several reboots today to finalize various software updates and other fun things of the kind… so pardon the dust as i settle in, but this is the first official entry from the new laptop… finally…

QUICK HITS, COURTESY OF TERRY TATE

– iTunes is currently featuring “The Rain” by K-OS as a discovery download or free single of the week or something… that song is beautiful and i highly recommend it… good introduction to K-OS as well…

– I’m going to do a full-on Dove Awards feature soon, but i can’t hide my disdain for the nominees list this year much longer… i mean, i love Ian Eskelin and all, but seriously, if “Me and Jesus” is one of the best seven songs that Christian music can come up with from the last year, then i’m out… for real… and Stellar Kart for artist of the year? are you KIDDING me? (in the voice of Chandler)… if i didn’t know any better, i wouldn’t understand how much money was spent earning those nominations… (said the guy who watched his editorial powers usurped as his site turned pink out from under him…)…

– Happy belated birthday to Dr. Suess/Theo. LeSieg… (March 2)… cats and hats off to the man who taught me all the places i could go…

– [time to reboot yet again]… Adobe, you big rotten menace… why must i reboot after each update only to find out that upon booting back up i need to reboot again?

BOOK-EM DANN-O

i finally finished Me, Myself and Bob… really cool book and i’ve got a couple of little reviews coming up fpr that… yes, a couple… still plugging away elsewhere… i have about 100 pages left in Beatitude (Matthew Paul Turner) and plenty to go in Rumors of Another World (Philip Yancey) and Relentless (Robin Parrish) – just such a long book and hardcover to boot… and it’s about time i dug back into Walk On (Steve Stockman), The Gospel Unplugged (Rich Wagner), and New Way to Be Human (Charlie Peacock), but my eyes have landed on Real Christianity – by William Wilberforce… it down’t look that long… maybe i can read it really quickly… i’m so bad…

INHALE, EXHALE, INHALE

Well, things are starting to stabalize a bit and i’m going to have to buckle down soon enough and get some actual work done… but before i bid you adieu here’s Me and the Mouse Part 2…

ME AND THE MOUSE (PART 2)

Day 2, part 2… so we headed off to Downtown Disney, which is really a big shopping plaza (not too unlike the Disney parks themselves, just without any rides)… the main thing to realize as you head to Downtown Disney is that there are a lot of entrances and the one we wanted was the very last one… Disney Lesson # 2: When you’ve given up hope, hold on, it’s probably the next left… for us anyway, we drove the full length of the plaza, past about 15 entry points to get to our desired destination: The Marketplace… Alas, we remained faithful, found a parking spot and entered the gates of merchandising and stood at the largest Disney Store ever imaginable… (note: i have no statistical evidence to back this claim up)…

The giant store known as the world of Disney unfolded section after section with everything you could want from a Disney shopping experience, unless you’re a single guy looking for a date with a Disney Princess which would lead me to wonder why on earth you’re at Disney World in the first place… Anyway, i laughed the loudest at the site of “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique” a “magical” saloon promising to make you feel like a Disney Princess… they’re so clever… there were plenty of cool shirts and gizmos that i’m sure would’ve made me feel as complete as any other material possession had i added them to my collection, but for the most part, i remained a casual observer…

After we made our way through that ginormous store – the pirate section was slow going – we headed over to the real destination of interest: “Once Upon a Toy” a.k.a. the Mr. Potato Head-quarters… in case you’ve never seen this store or heard about it, this is where you can find the most obscure parts for your Mr. Potato Head… Mickey Mouse ears, Mr. Incredible pants and arms, Buzz Lightyear space suit… just about anything (Disney) you can imagine… and the real fun is that they sell the parts by the box… which means it’s a splendid challenge of how much you can cram into a thin cardboard box without watching it explode on the table in front of you… i think we did pretty well, but i realized later that i got two left arms for Mr. Incredible and no right arm… (better than two left feet)…

There are also some cool shops like Team Mickey which featured various jerseys that are very cool, but way too pricey for me to watch the littles grow out of in a month’s time and the LEGO store… marked by some giant LEGO structures including a sea dragon that’s actually in the lake and towers aboveyou as you walk by it… pretty impressive… most of my LEGO structures were cube-shaped buildings and they were never all that large… i could always make a wicked card house though… we cheesed out on dinner and simply went to the big McDonalds that’s in Downtown Disney… trust me, it looks way more impressive than the food supprts… never mind that you basically take the standard McDonald’s pricing and add 15-20% to get these prices… and the real kicker was that they gave the boys some stupid Nickelodeon character toys in the Happy Meals… HELLO? I’M IN DISNEY WORLD!!!!

After a greasy dinner that wasn’t as cheap as we expected, we headed back to the house figuring that the rest of my family would surely have arrived by now… of course, they hadn’t and we spent the next hour or so playing pool and air hockey with the littles and it was actually a bit of fun since i didn’t have to worry about damaging the table which was already in some sad shape… My brother and his family arrived, heralding in new decibels of sound (four kids) and as they were settling in, my parents finally arrived… apparently both my parents and my brother had gotten lost getting to the house, presumably because they forgot how to read road signs… it was clearly marked as far as i could tell…

We settled the kids all snug in their beds – the littles, not being used to sharing a room, didn’t go down quite so easily, but after a dozen reminders or so, they slept – and the adults sat around the common area/family room to discuss the trips and our plans for the week… it was then, that i realized that the couches kind of smelled like wet dog, but i kept this information to myself… We discussed the fact that it was a holiday weekend and that it would probably be wisest to avoid the Magic Kingdom on Sunday and Monday since they would be mobbed with 3-day weekenders… we all agreed that Animal Kingdom would be a good Sunday visit and MGM Studios would be where we (my family) would be going on Monday… these are somewhat secondary parks and we figured traffic would be less… We also agreed that it would be silly to try to keep all 12 of us together during our excursions to the parks… this agreement is important and will come into play later… Disney Lesson # 3: Control your numbers… more on that next time…

IF YOU CAN’T DANCE TO THIS, IT DOESN’T MATTER

hi-ho, hi-ho… ok, i’m off to get something accomplished… no more reboots hopefully and i can focus on some things that will actually result in bills paid… i should do my taxes soon too… according to my schedule, by the end of this week, i’ll have completed six, maybe seven interviews… that’s nuts… why do they always come in droves?…

spinning round in circles:

Anberlin – Cities
K-OS – Atlantis: Hymns for Disco
John Waller – The Blessing
TobyMac – Portable Sounds
Relient K – Five Score and Seven Years Ago
Jeremy Riddle – Full Attention (cough, cough)

i’ve got my eye on…

peace… love… bdg…
