This is the first of perhaps many editions of what i’m calling Ten Words or Less… Since there were something like 25 new (Christian) albums released this week, and since i’m pretty terrible at buckling down and writing fullon reviews these days, here’s a bundle of quick takes on the albums that i got and had a few minutes to reflect about… i think it’s pretty self-explanatory, but feel free to send me any questions you may have… other than that, enjoy…

The Myriad just signed with Kosmos Records, a new label imprint under the umbrella of Koch Records. They will be releasing an EP this fall entitled Prelude to Arrows EP, leading up to their proper sophomore release, With Arrows, With Poise. The band will also be touring with David Crowder Band on the Remedy Club Tour this fall. Interestingly enough Koch also signed a distribution deal with Floodgate Records, the previous label home for The Myriad.

As if the 25 releases from yesterday aren’t enough, also coming out with new music soon, Mitch McVicker is releasing another album in September called Love Will Rise. Recently independent, Paul Wright is releasing Kingdom Come in September. AND, Sanctus Real recently hit the studios again to start work on their next album… always something brewing…

i’m sure there’s more, but my time is up… coming later i’ll dive through a handful of the week’s releases and give you my thoughts in… ten words or less.

yep. this morning i returned to the scene of yesterday morning’s charity and got me another FREE DONUT!… today it was actually a donut with chocolate frosting… yum… also another small cup of terrible coffee… i wonder… maybe it’s the cream?… i’m so used to having milk in my coffee, maybe the cream is what leaves such a bad taste mouth, or should i say sink?…

FRIED-DAY

well, it’s Friday, that’s for sure and work has been annoying thus far… well, now all my coworkers have taken leave of absence for the remainder of the day… apparently it’s “come in really late and leave really early” day again… i NEVER get that memo… anyway, i’m gonna finish some stuff up and then tidy up my office space a bit… maybe if i clean things up, it’ll look like i’m getting ready to leave for another job and maybe that’ll scare my boss enough to try to keep me… or maybe i’m right and he doesn’t give a rip either way… oh well…

WEAK END

i feel like i should end this on a stronger, but i don’t have it in me… got 6 visitors in my house for the next 7 days or so – 4 extra kids equals crazy time – but i have my article done and turned in, nothing specifically hanging over my head, so hey, let’s make this the best weekend of the summer, eh?

…for real.

Earlier this month, some of you stumbled upon FreeRSB.com and were thrilled to find two free songs from the new album.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

if you head over to RelevantMagazine.com/RobbieSeayBand you can get the ENTIRE ALBUM for free! The catch, despite the “no strings attached promise” is that you have to sign up for the Relevant Newsletter and the Robbie Seay Band Newsletter, but it’s not like your inbox isn’t already cluttered, what’s 2 more newsletters gonna do?

For the record, i highly recommend this record… young and old, rockers and worshippers… this one’s a keeper… i listened to it the entire day earlier this week because it was that good…

enjoy.

OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT

Well, as they say, today is a new day… (cue Michael Buble)… and i’m feeling, gooooooood…..

anyway, today is off to a good start… the littles slept in a bit (those poor boys are in for a shock when school starts)… and littler boy sidled up to the bed to nicely to say good morning to me… we played a bit, i watched PTI, and when i had to head to work, it was all good…

then on the way to work, i decided to help keep the good times rolling and swing by the new Dunkin’ Donuts (America Runs on DD) to pick up a fabulous French Cruller (which, according to the online nutricional facts does NOT containcrustaceons of any kind – was that really a concern?)… anyway, as i got to the door and glanced through the window, i noticed a stunning void on the donut racks… i hesitated, but decided to continue through the door and see what the deal was… turns out, they aren’t officially open yet, but they were giving out free munchkins and free coffee… score!… i mean it’s no french cruller, but the half-dozen chocolate munchkins and terrible cup of coffee (absolutely wretched) were FREE!… and hey, i’m pretty broke these days so FREE! is better than a buck…

WHAT’S BREWING?

speaking of coffee… i’ve decreased my coffee intake significantly as of late… i used to drink a good 28-30 ounces of coffee every day, but i cut back a while ago because i was under the weather and coughing a lot, in the vein of a smoker’s cough, and decided that maybe coffee was drying out my throat and making the cough worse… that week i pretty much gave up coffee altogether, dropping about 5 ounces at most… nowadays, i only drink about 10 and generally i feel better… besides the coughing, i kind of got sick of drinking so much of something that leaves sludge at the bottom of the cup… literally, sludge… water leaves no sludge…

WHAT THE DAY HOLDS

oh, it’s a busy day… i needed a good start, ’cause the rest of the day, i’ll be holding on for dear life… I’ve got my article due today and i’m about a third of the way through the first draft… and i’ve got a ton of work sitting on my desk here at work…people always making commitments on my behalf… so lots to do… just checking in and i may be back between rounds of Text Twist, work and writing…

why are stupid people always so arrogant… or is it the other way around… are arrogant people always so stupid?… does arrogance breed stupidity or does stupidity breed arrogance?…

so maybe i should get a new job… but what job?… and ugh… so many questions…

i’m just so frustrated these days… as i’ve been going through my old entries to spiffy them up – i’m just a Monk – i’ve noticed that work-related frustrations have been one of the most consistent themes of my life… in fact, “I Hate My Job” is actually one of my top tags… that’s probably not a good thing… then again, hate’s really a strong word… probably too strong… for my own benefit, let’s look at the pros and cons of my job…

Pros:
1. it pays pretty well.
2. it’s pretty secure.
3. it’s a laid-back environment.
4. it’s not 100 miles from my house.
5. sometimes it’s challenging and interesting

Cons:
1. my coworkers are frustrating
2. i’m not getting a raise this year
3. my coworkers are incompetent
4. layoffs are potentially around the corner.
5. my coworkers don’t like me and i don’t like them

eh. anyway… i just sat through another wonderful meeting that went nowhere and took forever to get there… i don’t really want to start a new job, but i do… but i don’t… but…

i think the biggest fear of starting a new job is what it may mean for my writing… not that it’s all that much to talk about as is, but if i didn’t have the aforementioned laid-back environment that i typically have here… well, i wouldn’t be able to write nearly as much as i do…

THE SPORTS BLOTTER

Michael Vick is facing up to five years of jail time and quite possibly a lifetime ban from the NFL… which likely means that he’s just blown the rest of his $130 million contact… not the best gambler…

Tim Donaghy – the corrupt NBA referee – is about to take down the NBA… whereas everyone assumed that Donaghy was going to go down pretty quietly, now he’s promised to disclose the names of up to TWENTY MORE REFS who are corrupt… twenty is a big big number and the NBA is in a world of hurt…

Barry Bonds is now threatening to sue key sportswriters and other players who have publically stated that Bonds has taken illegal enhancement drugs to boost his stats… it just keeps getting worse… and it keeps getting harder to respect Barry for his achievements… it’s just so sad to see someone who was great and i mean great at his craft give in to temptations and peer pressure or whatever and then lash out at everyone who calls him on it…

The Red SAWX… yeah… they’re so going down… HA…

David Beckam… Becks has been on a tear lately even though his ankle still bothers him a bit… i was fortunate enough to watch the first game he started – against the DC United and man, when he was on the field, his entire team looked better… that’s what a star player should do… he makes everyone better and more confident and, even though it was in Spanish, i’m sure the announcers were impressed too… anyway, he got a goal (GOLLLLLLL!) and an assist in that game and more recently got three assists in a game against the red bulls…

AND IN OTHER NEWS

i’m not sure what else there is to say… i’ve got to get an article cranked out for HM by Thursday… got some tasks to pound out here at work… got a small group dinner night tonight… and family staying with us starting Firday… four extra kids… yikes!…

anyway… i’ve been listening to Robbie Seay Band today and a sneak peek at Remedy from David Crowder Band… John McLaughlin, Mr. J Medeiros, LA Symphony, Scribbling Idiots, The Rocket Summer…

i’m currently reading Soul Cravings by Erwin McManus, UnOrthodox by Urban D, The Imitation of Christ by Thomas A Kempis, Glory Revealed by David Nasser, Relentless by Robin Parrish, The World as Best as I Remember It by Rich Mullins and Rumors of Another World by Philip Yancey with a rack of books waiting to started and a handful of books waiting for official writeup…

i’m trying to write a books feature, a Left to Write (figured it’s about time to begin Volume 2), a concert review from a ways back, the aforementioned HM article, a stack of CD reviews (someday, i’ll break back out and start writing them), some walkTRus a bundle of interviews and so much more….

you can check out the LA Symphony Walk TRu and the Flatfoot56 interview now if you like, the links/pictures are at the top or just click over to theTRu and peep it from there…

Head on over to NowWhat.com and click on the keyboard to access some videos, a bio and some tour info…

also, if you poke around the site enough, there’s a quiz you can take to earn 3 free digital songs from EMI…

at this moment, my wife is planning my new career…
at this moment, she’s probably signing me up for job sites…
at this moment, i’m ignoring the emails of jobs “[she] thinks you’d be interested in”…
at this moment, she may be preparing a speech for when i come home…
at this moment, she probably thinks i should be getting my resume updated…
at this moment, i should be writing my reviews for CCM (they’re due today)…
at this moment, i’m supposed to be heading to a meeting…
at this moment, i’m listening to “The Scrantones” because i’m a terribly good procrastinator…
at this moment, there are plenty of albums and songs that i should be listening to and writing about…
at this moment, i’m wondering how i’ll be able to compensate for pending, unavoidable cost of living increases when my annual raise has been put on “indefinite hold”…
at this moment, i don’t know why i’m writing this…
at this moment, i’m wondering what to do…
at this moment, i’m wondering why i can’t seem to…
at this moment, i want to go back to bed…
at this moment, i need to keep moving…
at this moment, i need to clear my head…
at this moment…

so do we like the blue? i think it’s grown on me… here’s just a real quick entry to combat my lack of productivity everywhere else except for at Dice Wars… (i hold this man accountable for my addiction, but still recommend checking out his blog)…

Anyway, there’s some stuff up in the header that’s worth checkcing out or peeping as we like to say around here if you’ve missed it perchance… content has been sadly slow lately because of the aforementioned game and my own lack of motivation… i’ve been doing a bit of tweaking to the design over at theTRu though, so there should be some nice little changes in place soon… (i’ve just realized that FIREFOX doesn’t like my initial mockup, though, so clearly it is a crappy, crappy browser)… anyway, my to-do list never dwindles…

i’ve also been going back through my old entries and formatting them (i still have about a year’s worth of entries to change over to recognize the css i wrote for all the current entries)… and adding in those handy tags so the old entries will be stumbled upon more frequently if they happen to be topically relevant…

but i digress… the real reason i’m writing is another sports-related thing…

Barry BAH!

Barry Bonds broke the all-time home run record last night when he hit the 756th homerun of his baseball career… this allowed him to pass the great Henry Aaron on the leaderboard and in the record book, but certainly not in stature or class… i know, Barry Bonds hasn’t been convicted of any wrongdoing despite the numerous allegations that he used illegal substances to enhance his performance, but to that i say, whatever… (i could say more, but i gave that life up)…

Anyway, Bonds now holds several of the hitting-related records for Major League Baseball and i can’t look at his stats through the years (never mind his pictures) without drawing the conclusion that something was clearly going on… argue all you want that he never failed a drug test, but he was also taking drugs that were designed to be untraceable…

In my mind, this record just goes to show that sports, just like everything else in this world is corrupt… this record is absolutely meaningless in my book… even though Bond’s says it’s not tainted at all… i’ll just be waiting for the day when a player that’s worth respecting for his accomplishments – for achieving them in an appropriate manner – steps up and passes whatever number it is that Bonds ends with…

to end on a positive sports note, i watched Michael Irvin, Thurman Thomas and Charlie Sanders get inducted into the Football Hall of Fame this past weekend and i sincerely hope that Bonds reaches a point in his career when he realizes, like Irvin so emotionally and fittingly put into words, that he didn’t garner his success the “right way”… what an absolutely touching speech that was from Michael Irvin… part of which can be watched here and all of which can be read here… (i’m not even a Cowboys fan, and i was greatly impressed)…

until next time…
