Nine right, five wrong… i guess that’s pretty good… here’s some picks for this weekend…

Colts over the Panthers (38-10)
Bears over Lions (31-21)
Bengals over Steelers (27-24)
Giants over Dolphins (40-24)
Vikings over Eagles (20-10)
Browns over Rams (34-28)
Titans over Raiders (24-13)
Bills over Jets (25-21)
Chargers over Texans (33-15)
Bucs over Jags (19-9)
Pats over Skins (37-20)
Saints over 49ers (27-7)
Packers over Broncos (35-18)

kind of a bummer that there’s no Sunday night game this week, but i suppose that has more to do with the World Series than anything else… also interesting is that the Giants will be beating the Dolphins across the pond in LONDON BABY!… (sorry, Friends reference)… in a silly ploy to attract interest overseas for the NFL franchise… wasn’t that experiment proven to be a failure when they folded NFL Europa this year?…

Anyway, how about that World Series so far?… stinkin’ SAWX… i’m sticking with the RAWX, but i think it’s gonna be 7 full games…

on a personal note, i’m sick… i don’t know what i have exactly, but i’m exhausted and this week was r-o-u-g-h… very very confusing things going on and i don’t think it’s because of the physical drain… anyway… i’m getting to bed soon… hooray for the weekend…

peace… love… bdg…

general19 Oct 2007 11:21 pm

some days i wonder why i even get out of bed… i mean, i know why i got up… littler boy wakes me up every morning with the cutest smile, way too much energy and a desire for some daddy time… that’s not really what i’m talking about though… sometimes i either don’t get anything accomplished or it’s been such a bad or frustrating day that i know that if i had slept all day, at least i might not be as tired as i am… anyway…

i broke down and bought the Transformers movie in the 2-Disc Limited Edition version with the DVD case that transforms into Optimus Prime… haven’t seen the movie, but i figured that i was going to eventually get it and i might as well get the cool packaging… the problem is that the littles are pretty sure that it’s a toy…

okay… good way to move on with the week is to focus on some football…i kind of blew it last week going 7-6 with the picks, but some of those were pretty surprising… anyway… here’s my picks for this week…

Ravens over Bills (18-13)
Saints over Falcons (31-17)
Redskins over Arizona (27-6)
Giants over 49ers (34-14)
Patriots over Dolphins (51-3)
Texans over Titans (24-10)
Lions over Bucs (38-31)
Chiefs over Raiders (20-10)
Bengals over Jets (30-16)
Seahawks over Rams (24-21)
Eagles over Bears (41-20)
Vikings over Cowboys (34-31)
Steelers over Broncos (37-13)
Colts over Jaguars (37-27)

and now, some comments… every game between now and week nine are nothing compared to the COLTS/PATRIOTS matchup… can you say, mid-season SUPERBOWL?… i hate the Steelers and i hate the Cowboys, but i think after this week, people will start to realize that the Steelers are a better team… Vinny Testaverde? Really?… hey, well, if he can come back, maybe it’s time for the Bills to look back to Flutie to take over the team again… somebody needs to teach the offense how to score…

okay, time to go… some days i wonder why i even. . .

peace… love… bdg…

general17 Oct 2007 02:43 pm

okay then… not sure what to say… got a new header finally to line up with the blue layout… i need to write an article today/tonight and instead i’m sitting around here doing not much of anything… well, i am working on some fabulous things here at work that probably will never be implimented… and i’ve got a couple interviews to transcribe… and i’m very frustrated and confused by a recent arrangement that i agreed to… and there’s a lot of nonsense going on with my finances and goals and such… and i need a haircut… and i only went 7-6 in my picks last week… and i split victories in my fantasy leagues again… and i just don’t know anymore… and…

i blog alone… yeeeeeeaaaaaah… with nobody else…

peace… love… bdg…

GLAM BANDS

i mentioned previously that i’ve been listening to a lot of music from the earlier days of my musical consumption… well… at least when i was branching out in my tastes and influences… well, i was listening to Use Your Illusion I by Guns N’ Roses the other day as I was driving home… songs like “November Rain” and “Don’t Cry” that used to dominate the airwaves back in the day came back to me like i wrote them myself and i was singing along word for word with my old *friend* Axl Rose… that’s somewhat understandable, i suppose, since those songs were very popular back then, but then came “Coma” the ten minute closing track that was never released as a single and includes sections of fast talking and muddled conversations… here’s the thing… i knew every word, every intonation, everything… not necessarily ahead of time, but as the song unfolded the words came to me right in step…

So, i sat there, stuck in traffic, thinking to myself how it had been at least ten years since i had last heard these songs… and how it’s just amazing that they’re all still stuck up there in my head waiting to be “unlocked”… and i realized again, just how important it is to monitor the things we put into these crazy brains of ours… which brings me to my next point. . .

BIBLE MAN

well, i’m not exactly Bible man, but i’ve realized that i don’t talk about, read, or think about the Bible enough these days and i’ve been making great efforts to remedy that… our church just finished a series covering the book of Joshua and my Sunday school class just finished up a study in Ephesians… and it was really interesting to see how closely those books were tied together… well, at least i saw some significant parallels…

Joshua is a book full of battles… Joshua and the Israelites are taking over the promised land section by section, preparing for and fighting insurmountable battle after battle… and the entire book seems to deal with these wars and what it takes to be victorious in these literal, physical battles…

Ephesians on the other hand is all about spiritual battles… how to prepare for them – putting on the full armor of God and all that good stuff – and how to fend off attacks from the powers and principalities of the spiritual world…

putting the two books together in my study – albeit an inadvertant move – proved to be a very enlightening experience for me… now, i’ve moved onto Judges and Colossians… and i’m again seeing some strong parallels… more on that later…

FOREIGN LANDS…

All this talk about wars and battles and such got me thinking more about, well, the current war in Iraq… i’m not quite ready to get into the Jesus politics thing just yet, i’ll need more time and i’m listening to a sermon series to make sure that i’m not tossing this guy under a bus unfairly, but i will talk a little bit about this war and what i think is going on…

I’ve heard a lot of people talk about this war as if it were a spiritual war… the other “side” has called it a jihad and such and many people see the two sides as Islam and Christianity… well, it’s not a spiritual war… it’s not even a religious war at all… it’s a physical war that has been clouded by a misunderstanding of religion… there are several reasons why it’s not a spiritual or a religious war, but the few that stand out to me are as follows:

First, America is NOT a Christian nation… i know we say we are… and perhaps we want to be… but the truth is that we’re not and i’m not entirely sure that we should want to be… power corrupts and political power is some of the worst at corrupting… i’m not saying that Christians can’t be politicians… i’m saying that having a Christian as president doesn’t make the US a Christian nation… it makes us a nation with a Christian president…

the other reason – i’m running long – is that our goal is simply a physical goal… we’re hoping to free the nation from physical bondage, not spiritual bondage… we’re not trying to convert them to Christianity and they’re not trying to convert us to Islam… they’re trying to kill us and we’re trying to offer them peace… (please note that i’m not so naive as to think that those are the only motives behind the war, but these are motives nonetheless)…

anyway, i can probably ramble on for a while longer, but i’ll move on…

SPORTS FANS…

well, i didn’t do too badly with my picks last week… nine right five wrong and two of those were upsets… well, the Bears upset the Packers and the Cowboys upset ME… anyway, those were some great night games, weren’t they? I just have to complain about the scheduling of these airtimes… the networks KNOW that the games rarely fit into the timeframe they allow on the grid… it’s plagued them since the infamous Heidi Bowl of 1968… and yet they keep fumbling the scheduling and my DVR cuts off the end of the games… i even added 20 minutes to the end of the scheduled time for the Bills game on Monday and i STILL missed the very end of it…

anyway… looks like some great games this week too… now for my picks… purely for fun…

Baltimore over St. Louis (21-20)
Bears over Vikings (27-17)
Browns over Dolphins (38-10)
Washington over Green Bay (31-13)
Houston over Jacksonville (24-21)
Bengals over KC (34-24)
Eagles over Jets (47-27)
Bucs over Titans (20-17)
Cards over Panthers (28-9)
Patriots over Cowboys (45-24)
Chargers over Raiders (31-21)
Seahawks over Saints (24-6)
Giants over Falcons (27-16)
Bills over Cowboys (56-10) in Madden 2007 on my PS2

One less game than last week, but some great matchups… unlike last week, however, all the action is in the afternoon… the night games figure to be complete duds… i was happy to discover that i’ll be able to watch the Skins/Packers game (which is tough for me to pick since i have loyalties to both teams), the Bengals/Chiefs game AND the Pats/Cowboys game… it’s going to be action packed and exciting i’m sure…

CLAPPING HANDS (WAIT, I DON’T HAVE ANY HANDS)

just posted an interview with Mike Nawrocki from Veggietales fame… and not too long ago i officially moved Left to Write, my monthly editorial feature over to theTRu… good things to peep…

Free Music&videos&web13 Oct 2007 08:49 pm

i’m somewhat ashamed of myself for not promoting the heck out of this already… i’ve meant to post this video and show my support of the project and all that it stands for, but as i’m sure you’ve figured out by now, i am not always punctual with the updates… better late than never…

i humbly submit to you, Constance, by Mr. J Medeiros, the video for one of the most potent songs released this past year… the video that was too risque for MTV, probably because it hit too close to home… the song that exposes and discusses the ever-growing problem of porn and the exploitation of women and girls… here’s the video…

now, a few more related links:
IAmConstance.org – the website of Mr. J’s organization that hosts countless anonymous accounts from victims of trafficking, kidnapping and abuse
of gods and girls at: iTunes, Amazon or Sphere of Hip-Hop

Question: Can Science and Religion co-exist?

Answer: Well, the short answer, the easy answer, is clearly yes because they both do exist and they both exist at the same time.

The snide answer is that science should’ve been smart enough to evolve into an entity strong enough to defeat religion…since it hasn’t, i suppose it disproves itself…

More seriously, i suppose both science and religion are constucts that man has used to frame the mysteries of the world around him… you must differentiate between theoretical science and proven science… theoretical science can actually become a religion if you’re not careful… you must also differentiate between philisophical religion and relational religion (that is, based on a relationship to God)… philosophical religion can actually become a science if you’re not careful…

of course, they can and do both exist – co-exist even – as one of the numerous intersects between faith and reality…

maybe that didn’t make much sense, but i wanted to try out a question of the day and i didn’t have much time before bed…

coming soon, i think i’m going to dive into the whole Jesus, Christianity, and Politics thing that i mentioned briefly a few entries ago… more on football and sports in general (WHY BILLS, WHY?)… and more random events of my life…

peace… love… bdg…

PS: I just answered this Featured Question, you can answer it too!

few quick hits for Friday…

TEENAGE POLITICS

Apparently, according to this nifty little Candidate Match Game i, like Mike, Like Mike… er… well…

I’m not too surprised by the results actually… still… he has to gain a lot of support to even make the ballet…

THE 90s COMEBACK

so i’ve been listening to a lot of 90s rock music… maybe some 80s too, actually… Thanks to SpiralFrog.com, i’ve been able to acquire digital copies of albums i used to burn through on cassette tapes back in the day… included in the mix are Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, and, of course, good old Guns N’ Roses… it’s like a walk down memory lane… good times… more on that another time…

FOOTBALL

i can hardly believe that this is week 5 already, but here’s some thoughts about the season so far…

  • Go Packers!
  • All these early, serious injuries leads me to believe that there are a LOT of starters pumped full of HGH…
  • freaking Cowboys!
  • all your big fantasy studs are belong to us…

And now for my picks this week… for fun… maybe i’ll do this weekly…

    Houston over Miami (34-6)
    KC over Jacksonville (24-10)
    Patriots over Browns (41-14)
    Saints over Panthers (17-10)
    Giants over Jets (30-24)
    Steelers over Seattle (20-13)
    Cardinals over Rams (24-6)
    Redskins over Lions (34-31)
    Titans over Falcons (22-17)
    Colts over Bucs (38-28)
    Broncos over Chargers (31-24)
    Ravens over 49ers (27-10)
    Packers over Bears (30-13)
    Bills over Cowboys (24-20)

there… some stunners there and we’ll see how it all turns out… however it works out, i’m just happy to be able to be watching football each week… ’til next time…

    peace… love… bdg…

This just in from Big Idea… (what follows is a press release)…

All-new Penguins! episodes to air on NBC, ION and Telemundo

At long last, Big Idea’s beloved flock of flightless fowl is back with all-new episodes airing on NBC’s Qubo Saturday morning block and on the ION and Telemundo networks.

After debuting last fall on NBC, the 3-2-1 Penguins! series garnered high ratings capturing the #1 spot on the kid-dominated Saturday morning television time-slot.

As a result, Big Idea’s crack-squad of Penguin-herders led by Tim Hodge (Director, Gideon: Tuba Warrior, LarryBoy and the Bad Apple, Minnesota Cuke, Duke and the Great Pie War, An Easter Carol, Star of Christmas …) is currently in production on 20 new episodes which will begin airing Friday, October 5th on the ION Network, and Saturday, October 6th on NBC and Telemundo.

The season premiere episode, entitled “I Scream, You Scream,” teaches a lesson in jumping to conclusions. Zidgel, Midgel, Fidgel and Kevin (Jason and Michelle too!) are back in action in a hilarious new world filled with faith, fun and flightless birds! Will the Kids and Penguin Crew learn to set aside their accusations and work together again, just in time to stop Cavitus’ hi-jacking of the ice cream delivery ship at the Comet Lounge? Find out this weekend!

Fear not, DVD lovers — you need not rely on network television to see this larger-than-life “gaggle” of Penguins! Big Idea is scheduled to release these new episodes on DVD beginning in 2008.

Visit BigIdea.com for the full Big Idea television schedule and check your local listings to verify broadcast times and dates!
