i hope you all had a spectacular 4th of July weekend… we kind of played things low-key, hung out and watched some fireworks… i’ve managed to have a lot of conversations with little boy about memorials and sacrifice and things of that nature, so that’s been pretty interesting…
well, i’m still in limbo so to speak, but i’m choosing to make the most of things… in fact, we just took the littles into DC for some sight-seeing earlier today… man, is that tiring… but they both were very excited about riding the metro train and seeing all the monuments and museums and castles and what-not…
anyway, today, i’m introducing something that i call, big deal or “big deal”… which is an idea that i was tossing around long ago, when i was contemplating a podcast and many other things with a few other parties involved… it probably works better in an audio format because you can hear the tone of my voice, but i still want to give it a shot and hopefully, the quotes will be sufficient…
Basically, i introduce some topics and decide if they are a big deal – if so, i’ll tell you why i think so, if not i’ll just say “big deal” and move on (with perhaps a quick parting shot)… i think all of the topics today will be related to television, but i may throw something in off the top of my head… let’s get started…
DEAL OR NO DEAL?
now playing: Big Deal – Carolyn Arends
The Sci-Fi Channel becomes “Sy-Fy”: the pronunciation stays the same… i’m a little torn on this one, but i don’t think it’s really the spelling of the words that has kept the network from expanding its marketshare… “big deal”
Sy-Fy introduces Warehouse 13 this, on the other hand, is a big deal since it’s the first original show on the network that i’ve been interested in checking out… well, maybe i was interested in Eureka, but i never did watch any of those… anyway, this looks like it may be a pretty fun show…
“The Superstars” return to television this was initially a big deal, but coupled with “T.O. returns to The Superstars after losing in the first episode” has really caused the show to fizzle out… i remember watching these shows growing up when lots of the big names in sports competed… this iteration, however, is more “Big Brother” than a sports spectacle and that detracts from it greatly… i have no real interest in who comes out on top…
10 Things I Hate About You becomes a weekly series… this is actually a pretty big deal… i mean, my wife is more excited about this than i am, but it is an adaptation of Shakespeare which is always good and the movie wasn’t really that bad – Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles – but it also continues to prove that apparently there are relatively no new ideas out there for television shows… every show is a remake of something else…
Great American Road Trip debuts this week… “big deal”… no interest whatsoever…
Keyshawn Johnson Tackles Design… really? A&E will be airing a new series of interior decorating shows featuring the former wideout designing rooms and houses that look good from a man’s perspective… sorry, but that’s not too hard… comfortable place to sit, lots of electronics, food & drinks, and that’s about it… “big deal”…
History Channel introduces “That’s Impossible”… i’m pretty sure this is a series debut… looks interesting enough, but i guess the rub is that it’s more of a science show than a history show… i don’t know, i suppose we’ll just see how much of an impact it makes… for now, though, “big deal”…
THAT’S A WRAP
well that’s that for now… let me know what you thought, think, etc… i’m sure i’ll be able to find plenty more to talk about in the near future… coming soon: the final spring reading wrap-up and the first summer reading update… some talk about music… and i’m going to be working on some more stuff for theTRu soon, promise…
peace… love… bdg…
