on the rest of the eleventh week
i’m knee deep in computer issues right now, but here are this week’s picks…
Ravens over Panthers…
Jets over Texans…
Chiefs over Cards…
Titans over Skins…
Bills over Bengals…
Raiders over Steelers…
Browns over Jags…
Cowboys over Lions…
Packers over Vikings…
Saints over Seahawks…
Falcons over Rams…
49ers over Bucs…
Colts over Patriots…
Eagles over Giants…
and Broncos over Chargers…
peace… love… bdg…
on the week eleven midweek matchup…
Bears over Dolphins… ONLY because the Dolphins are lacking some offensive components and they rarely win at home anymore…
peace… love… bdg…
Well, the early games are about to kick off and it’s more than time for my quick picks… last week, well, i’ll get to that in a second… first the picks for this week…
- Lions over Bills by a field goal…
- Vikings over Bears by a touchdown…
- Browns over Jets by ten…
- Colts over Bengals by a touchdown…
- Jaguars over Texans by six…
- Dolphins over Titans by one…
- Bucs over Panthers by twenty…
- Chiefs over Broncos by ten…
- Cardinals over Seahawks by a field goal…
- Giants over Cowboys by thirteen…
- Rams over 49ers by five…
- Patriots over Steelers by three…
- and Eagles over Redskins by a dozen…
now, last week, i ended up squeaking by at 8-5 after a really slow start… which brings my totals to 72-55 at the halfway point… not too bad…

on week nine… (and catching up)
i haven’t been the best at actually commenting on the football season the last couple weeks, so now, at the season’s halfway mark, i’ll play a little catch-up and see how things are shaping up… we’ll start with week six… notably, i accurately predicted that the Bills wouldn’t lose during their bye week… phew… beyond that, i went 9-4, bringing my season’s totals to 49-38… looking good…
week seven: the Bills were back in play and i need to get this off my chest… they were robbed of an impressive victory over the Ravens… seriously, the interception in the end zone at the end of the half gets disallowed, changing the momentum of the game going into the second half… and then, hello? forward progress was stopped in overtime… ugh… anyway, as for picks, i was appropriately 7-7 for week 7… lots of weird outcomes, which would be upsets in a normal season, but are simply the way the ball wobbles this season… and, speaking of the season, week seven brought me to 56-45 for the year…
week eight: more craziness than you could ever hope for… yeah, so last week was full of craziness and headlines and more strange outcomes… i mean, i actually picked the Bills to beat the Chiefs… and they almost did… that may actually be the theme that recurs for the rest of the season actually… and then there’s the Randy Moss nonsense… and the McNabb benching… and the rise of the Bucs, Lions, Raiders, Browns, and Rams… and the fall of the Cowboys, Vikings, and pretty much the entire NFC… in the midst of all that turmoil, i managed a safe 8-5 week, bringing my totals up to 64-50…
and that brings us to week nine… the season’s fulcrum… the week when everything changes or stays the same… and my picks are as follows…
- Lions over Jets… yep, first pick and it’s an upset… the truth is the Jet’s defense is struggling, the Lion’s offense is thriving and vice versa… it may very well be a close game that’s decided by the kickers, but i’m gonna say the Lions get the home field advantage and pull it out by 6…
- Dolphins over Ravens normally, i would pick the Ravens here, but the Dolphins are looking good this year, especially on the road… and the Ravens still aren’t quite consistent enough to maintain the level of confidence they should given their personnel… another close game, but the fins outlast the Ravens and win by about a field goal…
- Patriots over Browns… this is a surprisingly tough game to call… the Patriots defense probably won’t be able to contain the Brown’s run game, but they’ll certainly overpower the passing game… on the flipside, the Browns should struggle against both aspects of the Patriot offense as BenJarvus Green-Ellis continues to emerge and Brady continues to exploit the secondary with his death by a thousand cuts short game… Patriots by 11…
- Chargers over Texans… November is the month that traditionally sees San Diego thrive and Houston fold… this matchup will be the proof in the pudding… Chargers by 17…
- Bills over Bears… i literally hate picking the Bills to win this year, but the Bears are just awful… the Bills defense should quickly set the tone for the game and their Fitz-powered offense is more than sufficient to overpower the Bears aging defense… Bills by 1
- Vikings over Cards… this is a horrible game to have to call… both teams are dysfunctional and struggling, but i think the Cards have the worst of it… Vikes by 7…
- Falcons over Bucs… solely based on home field advantage… Freeman will certainly make this close if the Bucs are still within striking distance at the end, but i get the sense that the Falcons will run away early and keep the pressure on the entire game… Falcons by 10…
- Saints over Panthers… if not, then the world might spin backwards on its axis… Saints by 20…
- Giants over Seahawks… Seattle has the best home field advantage of any team in the league… unfortunately for them, the Giants are just ramping up and they’ll storm the gates today… Giants by 9…
- Colts over Eagles… this is another tough one, because the Colts are still licking wounds and the Eagles will be welcoming Vick back to his starting role… however, the Colts are ready to roll through the rest of the season and a certain number 18 won’t let them stop now… Colts by 5…
- Raiders over Chiefs… who would’ve thought that this game would’ve had meaning this year… no one expected either team to make much of an impact, but both are fighting for first place right now, but the hosting Raiders are streaking right now and the Chiefs just aren’t ready for them at the moment… Raiders by 13…
- Packers over Cowboys… the Cowboys stink… end of discussion… Packers by 7…
- Steelers over Bengals… the Bengals are overrated and can’t take the toughness of the Steelers… Steelers by 14…

okay, enough is enough… i’m back now to finally continue the TV schedule talk… and now that i’ve delayed so much, i can actually speak to some of these shows and how they’re doing… i don’t think my opinion on any of them changed much having watched episodes, but either way, here’s the rundown for Thursday nights on the tube…
WELCOME BACK: THURSDAY…
Returning to the airwaves, but new on Thursday is The Big Bang Theory, a sitcom that has it’s hits and misses aplenty, based on a handful of extreme stereotypes including the ditzy blonde and gaggle of ill-adjusted “nerds”… it has its moments, but i don’t see it as a contender when competing with the NBC Comedy Block… speaking of… welcome back to Community which hit its stride last season and has continued on a health pace thus far… 30 Rock also returns and, despite critical aclaim, has already begun with the gimmicks, including a live show… it’s still a prety funny show, but it’s also pretty hit or miss for me still… then there’s The Office which had a mediocre season six, that left me declaring Better Off Ted as a better office-based comedy… So far this season, it’s off to a good start, focusing on Andy Bernard more, which is always funny and i’m sure they’ll be teasing who will replace Michael Scott next season… Elsewhere on the dial is The Mentalist, which i enjoy for the most part and Fringe, which i had stopped watching due to schedule and lack of spousal interest… currently, i’m going through the first two seasons and will rejoin the third season audience when i get to it… i hear good things…
And, if you’re of a different ilk than i, you can always check out the new seasons of Grey’s, Private Practice, Bones, CSI, The Apprentice, and Vampire Diaries, but don’t expect me to support those decisions…
NEW: THURSDAY…
new on the scene is the BBT partner in crime, [*bleep*] My Dad Says, which is already begging to be cancelled, but is apparently kicking the pants off of the NBC counterpart… i have no interest in watching it and can’t imagine it being any funny at all… Shatner ruined The Practice as far as i’m concerned and i don’t know why anyone would feature him in a comedy series… next, My Generation, which i think is already cancelled… Nikita, which follows Vampire Diaries and is apparently provocative and full of action, but is barely a blip on my radar… and finally, Outsourced, which interests me because i watched the movie on which this new NBC comedy is based… the movie was kind of cute and quirky… the sitcom feels a bit disjointed and stuffed with “we need a joke here” moments… it’s just a little stuffy and forced for me so far… hopefully it will get better – and it did just get picked up for a full season, but i’m really looking forward to Parks and Rec returning once the new-season smell wears off…
MOVED OR M.I.A.: THURSDAY…
not that i care too much, but FlashForward was cancelled, and i guess Rookie Blue, the “Grey’s Anatomy” of cop shows, is an off-season show, but will return next summer… i haven’t watched any and the descriptions i’ve heard do nothing for me… plus it’s a Canadian show adapted for the States, so… anyway, i do kind of miss The Marriage Ref, which i guess was renewed for a mid-season run, so that’s something to look forward too, (just don’t flash forward to it, you might get cancelled)…
next time around, i’ll talk about Friday nights… with or with out the Lights… sooner rather than later, but in between now and then, expect a new music of the day and possibly some more football talk…
peace… love… bdg…
on week six, when the Bills don’t lose…
well, last week was interesting and all that craziness led me to a 5-8 week, bringing my total to 40-34 for the season… and it was so crazy that i didn’t even notice that i didn’t pick the Cowboys/Titans game… probably would’ve gotten it wrong… but anyway, this season continues to unpredictable and up for grabs in most divisions…let’s see what this week holds for us…
