okay, enough is enough… i’m back now to finally continue the TV schedule talk… and now that i’ve delayed so much, i can actually speak to some of these shows and how they’re doing… i don’t think my opinion on any of them changed much having watched episodes, but either way, here’s the rundown for Thursday nights on the tube…

WELCOME BACK: THURSDAY…

Returning to the airwaves, but new on Thursday is The Big Bang Theory, a sitcom that has it’s hits and misses aplenty, based on a handful of extreme stereotypes including the ditzy blonde and gaggle of ill-adjusted “nerds”… it has its moments, but i don’t see it as a contender when competing with the NBC Comedy Block… speaking of… welcome back to Community which hit its stride last season and has continued on a health pace thus far… 30 Rock also returns and, despite critical aclaim, has already begun with the gimmicks, including a live show… it’s still a prety funny show, but it’s also pretty hit or miss for me still… then there’s The Office which had a mediocre season six, that left me declaring Better Off Ted as a better office-based comedy… So far this season, it’s off to a good start, focusing on Andy Bernard more, which is always funny and i’m sure they’ll be teasing who will replace Michael Scott next season… Elsewhere on the dial is The Mentalist, which i enjoy for the most part and Fringe, which i had stopped watching due to schedule and lack of spousal interest… currently, i’m going through the first two seasons and will rejoin the third season audience when i get to it… i hear good things…

And, if you’re of a different ilk than i, you can always check out the new seasons of Grey’s, Private Practice, Bones, CSI, The Apprentice, and Vampire Diaries, but don’t expect me to support those decisions…

NEW: THURSDAY…

new on the scene is the BBT partner in crime, [*bleep*] My Dad Says, which is already begging to be cancelled, but is apparently kicking the pants off of the NBC counterpart… i have no interest in watching it and can’t imagine it being any funny at all… Shatner ruined The Practice as far as i’m concerned and i don’t know why anyone would feature him in a comedy series… next, My Generation, which i think is already cancelled… Nikita, which follows Vampire Diaries and is apparently provocative and full of action, but is barely a blip on my radar… and finally, Outsourced, which interests me because i watched the movie on which this new NBC comedy is based… the movie was kind of cute and quirky… the sitcom feels a bit disjointed and stuffed with “we need a joke here” moments… it’s just a little stuffy and forced for me so far… hopefully it will get better – and it did just get picked up for a full season, but i’m really looking forward to Parks and Rec returning once the new-season smell wears off…

MOVED OR M.I.A.: THURSDAY…

not that i care too much, but FlashForward was cancelled, and i guess Rookie Blue, the “Grey’s Anatomy” of cop shows, is an off-season show, but will return next summer… i haven’t watched any and the descriptions i’ve heard do nothing for me… plus it’s a Canadian show adapted for the States, so… anyway, i do kind of miss The Marriage Ref, which i guess was renewed for a mid-season run, so that’s something to look forward too, (just don’t flash forward to it, you might get cancelled)…

next time around, i’ll talk about Friday nights… with or with out the Lights… sooner rather than later, but in between now and then, expect a new music of the day and possibly some more football talk…

well, last week was interesting and all that craziness led me to a 5-8 week, bringing my total to 40-34 for the season… and it was so crazy that i didn’t even notice that i didn’t pick the Cowboys/Titans game… probably would’ve gotten it wrong… but anyway, this season continues to unpredictable and up for grabs in most divisions…let’s see what this week holds for us…

Dolphins over Packers, Chargers over Rams, Patriots over Ravens, Chiefs over Houston, Giants over Lions, Falcons over Eagles, Bears over Seahawks, Saints over Bucs, Jets over Broncos, 49ers over Raiders, Vikings over Cowboys, Colts over Redskins, and Titans over Jags…

at least i know the Bills won’t lose…

So, i’m running behind and these games are so hard to pick this year… six games last week were decided by a field goal or less… three more by a touchdown or less… and only five teams broke the thirty point mark… anyway, i still managed a 9-5 week, bringing my total to 35-26 for the season… this week, i’m taking a few chances and passing on the headlines but plan to pick the post season…

winners this week… Bills, Ravens, Colts, Packers, Rams, Panthers, Bucs, Falcons, Texans, Saints, Chargers, Eagles, and Vikings…

And now for the big picture… this is really tough since no one is really standing out as a dominant force in the league just yet… last year, though, i picked the Superbowl in week two… let’s see how i do this year…

AFC WILDCARD:
– Colts over Chiefs
– Ravens over Patriots

NFC WILDCARD:
– Rams over Falcons
– Bears over Redskins

AFC DIVISIONALS
– Colts over Jets
– Steelers over Ravens

NFC DIVISIONALS
– Packers over Bears
– Saints over Rams

AFC CHAMPIONSHIP
– Steelers over Colts

NFC CHAMPIONSHIP
– Packers over Saints

SUPERBOWL
– Steelers over Packers

man, i just hate having to pick the Steelers, but it looks like that’s how the cookies will crumble… also, for the record, i think the Bills will end up with three wins this year… this week hosting the Jags, week eight at Kansas City, and week fourteen hosting the Browns… there’s an outside chance, they’ll pull a couple upsets and bring the talley up to five, but it’s pretty unlikely… also, i’m not wholly convinced that the Chiefs will edge out the Broncos for the sixth playoff spot, but the Chiefs do have a more complete offense, with solid running and “good enough” passing… that’s how i see it… let’s see how it plays out…

SPORTS02 Oct 2010 02:33 pm

Well, i flipped my accuracy from 7-9 to 9-7, but i’m still just over 500 with a cumulative record of 26-21 for the season… i really need to get better if i’m going to be proud of myself… i’m going to have to pick the playoffs pretty soon… last year i did it in week two… i’m a little behind… anyway, here are this week’s picks and headlines…

Falcons over 49ers: Against the Niners Still the Safest Bet
Packers over Lions: Put Those Flags Away.
Titans over Broncos: Titans Prevail Despite Orange Crush Grooves.
Jets over Bills: Nothing to See Here, Move Along
Bengals over Browns: Cleveland Rocks, But Cincy Rolls.
Rams over Seahawks: Two in a Row for the Young Gun.
Saints over Panthers: No Silver Lining for Black and Silver.
Steelers over Ravens: Batch Pours it on Thick at Heinz Field.
Colts over Jags: It Was Almost Like a Bye Week.
Texans over Raiders: Texans Bounce Back Big With Victory over Faders.
Eagles over Skins: Welcome Back McNabb, He’s the New You.
Chargers over Cards: Every Other Week Isn’t Too Bad.
Giants over Bears: Cutler Connects for Four TDs. (Two Were Pick Sixes)
Pats over Fins: Fins Petition for All Road Schedule Next Year.

Looks like a decent slate of games… should be a fun week.
