Happy Thanksgiving… that’s most important.

As we’re chowing down on turkey and stuffing and potatoes and more. While we’re staking out ground for deals at the stores for the stuffs. In between conversations with family and (let’s face it) naps. There are three football games and here’s what you might miss.

Packers over Lions, 31-20
Cowboys over Raiders, 28-17
Steelers over Ravens, 24-9

Enjoy.

So, I was watching an episode of A FOOTBALL LIFE – a documentary series I’ve mentioned before – covering the life and career of Randall Cunningham. And, while the film was interesting based on its intended topic alone, something else stood out to me as I considered the glory days of the NFC East. It’s hard to imagine now, but in the late 80s and early 90s when I started paying attention to football, the power of the league was clearly with the Giants, Cowboys, Redskins, and Eagles (sort of). Now, this is one of the league’s worst divisions. So what’s changed? Coaching.

In the late 80s, the NFC East boasted four head coaches that were unparalleled in their brilliance: Buddy Ryan, Bill Parcells, Tom Landry, and Joe Gibbs. Also of note, amongst the coaching staffs were Jon Gruden, Jeff Fisher, Wade Phillips, Dan Reeves, Bill Belichick, and Tom Coughlin. That is a far cry from the what we’re looking at these days. And, it’s no wonder that the Giants end up on top most seasons. Coaching makes a huge difference. Outside of football, that role is leadership.

Now, on to this week’s games. Here are the winners of the week. (By the way, I was 9-6 last week, for a total of 100-62 on the season).

Ravens, Steelers, Lions…
Packers, Jaguars, Chiefs…
Panthers, Bears…
Colts, Titans, Giants…
Broncos…
49ers…

Well, the Saints and the Falcons typically play for blood, but this year, the Falcons have mostly bled out. And the Saints are doing well – but mostly at home. This game will be much, much closer than most people think, but I believe the Saints will edge out the Falcons by a field goal.

Saints 27, Falcons 24.

I have plenty to say, but no time to say it. So, this week, it’s short and sweet. Here are your winners.

Bills, Bears, Bengals…
Texans, Cards, Eagles…
Lions and Falcons…

Chargers and Saints…
Seahawks and Packers…

Broncos…
and Patriots…

Well, I took a real beating on last week’s picks and for the first time, I ended up below .500 with a wretched 6-8 record for the week. Fortunately, I’m still holding strong overall at 91-56. With an almost full slate of games this weekend, my goal is to break 100. And it all starts with tonight’s game.

Colts 31, Titans 17

More later.

Even if you are a die-hard Redskins fan, you had to see that coming, right? They simply don’t know how to play a full sixty minutes of football this year. I suppose it is kind of a heartbreak of a loss, but since I’m primarily a Bills fan, it rolls off my back pretty easily.

Anyway, we’re officially in the second half of the season and most of the teams (excluding those with key injuries) have revealed what they’re made of. We know what to expect of them for the rest of the year. And, yes, it appears we should NOT be expecting Tim Tebow to suit up anywhere this year.

We also shouldn’t be expecting the Jaguars, Steelers, or anyone from the NFC East showing up in the Super Bowl.

Okay, but this week, we can expect the following results from the scheduled games. (I’m 85-48 on the season, you can trust me.)

Seahawks over Falcons, Bengals over Ravens, Bears over Lions…
Packers over Eagles (close one), Colts over Rams, Raiders over Giants…
Bills over Steelers and Titans over Jaguars…
Panthers over 49ers, Texans over Cards, Broncos over Chargers…
Saints over Cowboys…

and in the game Monday Night Football begged to “flex” out of… the Bucs over the Dolphins…

It’s Thursday again. Another reminder of the week going by and good intentions go with it if you don’t seize the opportunities as they come. And speaking of opportunities, there has been a whole lot of talk about how a certain local team has to make the most of their opportunities if they want to see the post season. It started on Sunday with a ridiculous lucky set of downs at the goal line that failed to produce a touchdown. Will it continue tonight as they head to the dome and face the mediocre (at best) Vikings? Or will Adrian Peterson run roughshod over a Redskins defense that has had a tough time stopping anyone for a full game? Intriguing.

Well, here’s how I see it going down:

Vikings 27, Redskins 23.

Enjoy the game.

I think I need a bye week. Halloween had me scrambling to get my pick in on Thursday – and I got it wrong. But that was just another moment in the middle of a non-stop thrill ride that included spending all morning (and some of the afternoon) watching Little Boy compete at a swim meet. Yeah, he did well.

Of course, that leaves me with little time (or awakeness) to go through this week’s picks. Last week, I ended up at 10-3, bringing my totals up to 77-43. So that keeps me right in the middle of the pack if you compare me to the “experts.” Not too bad. Let’s see what I come up with this week. I have to rebound from Thursday…

The Winners:
Chiefs over Bills, Panthers over Falcons, and Cowboys over Vikings…
Saints over Jets, Titans over Rams, and Chargers over Redskins…
Raiders over Eagles, Seahawks over Bucs, and Browns over Ravens…
Patriots over Steelers, Colts over Texans, and Packers over Bears…

And no, I won’t be couch-gating, thankyouverymuch KFC.

In the world of fantasy, I split last week, so I’m 5-3 (3rd place) and 4-4 (6th place), but building a playoff-ready roster. The Eagles quarterback situation has really been a drain on my 6th place team. Vick is done, Foles is all but done, and Matt Barkley throws as well as Charles Barkley swings a golf club. Maybe they could use a quarterback… one that can run and take some hits… maybe…

Okay, that’s it for today. I’ll try to be better soon. I have plenty to talk about.
